Are Halfords allowed to do this?

My mum has just come back with DS in a highback booster seat. DS is 2 lbs under the minimum weight for a highback booster seat. He is 9lbs off the maximum weight for his current seat so wasn't planning on changing him any time soon. Apparently they had to sign a form to say DS was 2 lbs too light for the seat and were then allowed to buy it and install it in the car.

Sorry if I was a bit sharp last night in my posting - i'd had a few

emsylou - my mum knew how i felt. we went into mothercare just after xmas and they were half price so mum wanted to buy one. I said he wasn't quite at the right weight yet and he'd got loads of room left in his anyway so we might aswell wait until the summer sale. She said oh well we can get one of the 9 month - 12 year ones but they were double the price so i said oh it's not really worth it he'll only use the harness for about 6 months and that's all your paying the extra for.

with my mum it's a control thing. nothing i say matters even if it's over something important like breastfeeding, weaning, car seats etc she always knows best and does as she pleases anyway. i remember when ds was about 6 months old she bought him a walker despite me specifically saying i didn't want to get him one and it was a waste of money anyway. oh but it was ok cos she got it cheap from a charity shop and she couldn't turn down a bargain like that

You don't install a high backed booster seat though do you? You just put it in the car and poke the seatbelt through the bit in the seat back that lowers the belt away from the neck.

Anyway, it's your mum you need to be angry with, not Halfords.

nappyaddict, i see this is a much bigger issue and prob a long standing one. Your mum needs to let you be a grown up and make your own decisions about YOUR child. Are you able to have this discussion or have you tried and its fallen on deaf ears? Do you have lots of contact? I have a mother who used to batter my self esteem. am 33 now and still struggle with her from time to time but when i am in control shes has no in road. And from her point of view i know she thinks she is being helpful, i dont know if this is the same for your mum. keep talking about it with your friends etc, you will get the reassurance you need. good luck
