Babywearers: ring sling for toddler?

I have a healthy-sized 17-month DS, and a Toddlerhawk and onbuhimo I'm devoted to.

But do quite fancy something like a ring sling for pick-up-put-down situations like popping to shops, out for a walk with him etc.

Would a ring sling be good for a good-sized toddler? Would I want it padded? Is anyone getting rid of something suitable?

Thanks for any input!

you can try it. i wouldn't do padded though. the point of a good sling is to spread the weight.

if you search for the seller 'leopard spots' on ebay, some rs will come up. she is a good friend of mine and put up some rs recently.

i've never used a rs with a toddler btw.

Thanks foxy - although the only leopardspots seller I could find had negative one feedback, was in the States and wasn't selling anything so not sure I got the right person!

Which slings have you used with a toddler? I also caught sight of soft pouch slings and am wondering about those...

Mine is called a Bara Barn I think and absolutely brilliant . I think it's a Swedish make. I use it more than any other sling for our toddler (sounds like i have lots, oops! I also have an Ergo and wrap sling)

I really think ring slings are invaluable if you're a carrying-baby/child type of person! And people often say mine looks nice.
It has pockets I use for my bank cards etc. as I sewed some velcro on so one of them closes

I forgot to say, our DD is 2 years old and the only thing I wouldn't use a ring sling for is long distances as my other slings spread the weight more evenly. But the ring sling is much easier/ more convenient for most things and DD likes being able to see everything

I think that there are some that are designed for toddler carrying - the double layer linen ones esp. I was thinking about buying one the other day as it came up on UKBabywearingSwap and I thought it would be ideal when DS was in an up/down mood. It might still be for sale

We use a ToddlerHawk and a TaiTasi as our slings now - DS is 2.7

here is my friend's listing. I don't know if it is kosher to link to sellers on ebay which is why i didn't earlier.

for my big toddler i use a tettitett meitai

frazzledgirl · 18/01/2009 10:59

Thanks for the links and suggestions - I think I found the double layer sling but it's sold.

And your friend's sling looks lovely, foxy, but a bit more than I can spend at the moment.

Am thinking about buying fabric and making a ring sling of my own, although am rubbish at sewing so this may well be a v bad idea...

in that case,

if you know how to tie a slip knot you can make a sling without the rings.

here

and here

use a simple piece of cloth 65cm x 2.5m

Ooo foxy, you're a genius!

Will it work with my Hugabub wrap, do you think?

can't be stretchy. use normal fabric.

i use a short Hoppediz wrap myself but thinking of your budget. You can cut a single sheet to size for example and experiment with that.

in fact, you can fold a single sheet in half, length wise and use it as an emergency wrap using this tie.
