When can they go into the seat bit of a pram, rather than the carrycot bit?

DS is only 4 months, but he's fairly massive and has reasonable head control (not perfect)

I think the recommendation on the pram is to change over at 6 months, but have no idea where the instructions are, so can't check.

What age did you swap?

Pram is a Cameleon, so seat reclines, although obviously doesn't go flat, baby is still 'sitting', just leaning backwards.

I'll be interested to see what other people say as I'm contemplating swapping my 4 month old DS to the pushchair bit too... He sits propped up on the sofa quite happily so I'm thinking he'd be ok in the pushchair as long as he's properly strapped in.

is it a bucket seat? six months then

MrsBadger · 16/01/2009 14:59

I started propping dd up in the end of the pram at 4 or 5m or so so she could see more of what was going on but I could still lay her properly flat if she went to sleep.

Eventually swapped for the pushchair seat at 6m iirc

I swapped at 4 months. Even if yours doesn't recline fully your DS will be OK if he falls asleep as long as you're not considering leaving him in there for prolonged periods of time. The funny thing is they look massive when they are in their prams, then when you change them over to the pushchair they look weeny again

I also swapped atr four mths. Although DD never liked being in the carrycot - the car seat clipped on to the wheel bit and she used to be very happy in that. As soon as they are able to sit propped up comfortably i think you can change. Thank god I never spent all that money on a SilverCross pram!!

I've been wondering this for a while as my 6 month old DS is getting too big for his carry cot bit. I did spend all that money on a Silver Cross pram JohannaF! Mind you I have put my DS in the pushchair mode just in the house and he cries. Ugh. I may have to persevere a bit more but I wish I'd not got one with a forward facing pushchair bit as that seems to be the problem as he keeps looking round for me!

Bugaboo say six months, but DD went into pushchair mode in her Chameleon at about 4 and a half months, and was fine. She was much happier to be in the Bug then too, as it meant she could see what was going on.

We have a cam and DD went in the pram from 5.5 months.

If you havent already get the footmuff or a sheepskin liner to pad it out.

We didnt get the sheepskin.

Thanks for the opinions.

Have had DS in the car seat on there, which he seems to like - well, he stays awake and stares around!

Think I'll give it another couple of weeks, and stick him in there. Hoping he might stay awake happily - currently if I leave the house not in his nap times he stares at the 'ceiling' of the carry cot and gets cross, which makes leaving the house except over his naps somewhat challenging.
