Any one in the same/similar boat?

uni start date is sept 09 but i'm going to defer for a year to have another baby....so 2010/11 i will start my nursing degree and then 18 months top up to become a midwife i love it though

FairLadyRantALot · 18/01/2009 21:54

Hi, sounds like things are difficult,EaL, how old is your little one?
Oh there is a first years thread in Student Parents section, you might want to join us there!

theboob, why do you do your nursing first, why not just go into midwifery straightaway?

Well, I am a mum of 3, and am doing an Occulational Therapy degree full time...but am on Placement at the moment and am able to do that over 3 days a week!
Am loving it, but it is hard work!
My dh works shifts all over the place and also is active in the TA, so....we are not seing much of him at times.

theboob · 19/01/2009 13:06

where i live midwife jobs are hard to come by,and places on the course are even harder to come by,i am going to do my nursing degree first so when i finish my midwiffery topup and i cant get a job as a midwife straight away then i can go back to nursing. The student midwife that helped deliver ds2 was in this boat and was going back to her supermarket job after she had qualified ,i have heard the same story from past students from the college aswell

hello! not a first year but a final year full time forensic science degree single parent student! now there is a title!
yes it can be ahrd to juggle, but you will get better with prctice, plus it looks great on your CV!
i have a massive schedual on my wall in lounge above my desk, colour co-ordinated bits for DS (2) and me. i aslos volunteer at 2 places, so they have to have a colour too! things in our house change from week to week, i even have to rota in cleaning, but hey i no longer need a gym membership!lol! just keep going easter will be here soon!

FairLadyRantALot · 20/01/2009 12:27

oh right theboob, that makes sense! Are you going to do the nursing degree or diploma?

A friend of mine is doing her nursing diploma right now and is hoping to be able to work on gyno ward after and than to do her midwifery degree at a later stage!
Sadly, dispite most midwifery services being understaffed it does seem to be very difficult to get a job as a midwive.
Well, best of luck, to you!

Well, I am at my first OT placement right now, and am so so so so loving it! Until I started my placement I went through a phase of doubt, i.e. if I was doing the right thing, and if I should not just return to nursin....but this placement has already shown me, that there s no way I will go back into nursing, unless I had to!
