If you can leave them nappyless with a potty and they start weeing and take themselves to finish it, if you can ask them to do a wee and they will do it, and if they keep their nappy dry for reasonable length of time. Those, to my mind, are reasons to give your child more opportunities to use the potty/toilet

I read SWMNBN book recently and it was things like,

they can point to their body parts when named
can sit on potty for a few minutes at a time
...argh can't remember any more....

It suggested taking them with you to the toilet, and telling them what you're doing. ie, pulling down pants, having a wee, pulling up pants, washing/drying hands etc... to get them used to the procedure.

I thought it was quite a good read, and useful suggestions in it. (potty training in 1 week)

BrownSuga - what's 'SWMNBN book'??? Trying to figure it out...

Macdog · 15/01/2009 20:23

It refers to 'She who must not be named'

Aaah - I did wonder; I half remembered something about a book called 'potty training in one week' and thinking that it sounded rather like dog training...
