flexitots leaking at night - help!

Well, the title says it all really!

I've been using reuseables for about two months now and getting on really well with them - except for at night. Spent out on some flexitots with Motherease wraps but night after night I'm getting up about 5am to change DS cos he's wet through (he wakes up crying), change his clothes and his bed clothes.

Dh is now saying we're going to have to go back to Pampers at night which I really don't want to do for economical and environmental reaons.

DS has a 9oz evening feed and then usually feeds between 2-3am, so alot for a nappy to cope with, but Pampers do manage.

I do put a fleece booster inside the nappy - is this a mistake? Should I be putting the fleece boosters between the nappy and the wrap?

Please help! Thanks .

Have you got your wrap on too tight? I've only had wee leaks when the wrap is getting small or I've fastened on a too-tight setting.

I don't think it's on too tight - doesn't leave any marks on his skin, but will check.

What about the fleece boosters? Should I put them in or outside the nappy?

I would have thought inside, but I've not used a flexitot. Hopefully you'll get someone along who has used them.

Hi sponge! Could the wrap be too big? I use flexitots size 2 at night now, but the wraps I have to go over them (motherease and flexitot) are too big for now and we were getting leaks, so I'm still using medium sized motherease. I use a fleece topped booster inside the nappy.

Could maybe try some extra boosting inside the nappy? Dont know too much about it myself, but others on here will do!

Sponge - Fleece will not add extra absorbency, only a stay dry layer. If you want to add extra absorbency then you'll need a microfibre/hemp/bamboo booster, you can buy some that are fleece topped. I haven't tried a Flexitot before, do they have a pocket and a fleecey inner?

spongebrainbigpants · 16/01/2009 19:51

Thanks guys - feel a bit of an idiot now thinking that fleece liners would increase absorbency !

lollipop, have just looked at the lollipop site - which boosters would you recommend?

Ok, silly question - what exactly do you use the fleece liners for?! Do you put them in every nappy to wick away moisture or just night time ones? Would you use them with a booster?

Thanks again, I can start using my cloths again now!

Sponge, I use fleece liners help keep DS's bum dry and prevent staining on nappies. I use regular fleece liners in the day, and I use a booster at night that has a fleece top (so I dont need a seperate fleece liner).

If I used a booster that wasn't fleece lined I'd use a fleece liner as well to keep DS's bum dry.

lollipopmother · 17/01/2009 13:11

Well I personally don't like the Lollipop site! I have these boosters from ebay and find they work well, however it would probably be better for you to go for non-fleece topped ones as you already have fleece that you can use, so maybe these or a well known brand such as these or a well known seller such as Babykind. I've only tried the first type but as I said, probably more suitable to go for one that isn't fleece lined so you get an extra layer of absorbent material.

Fleece is purely used to keep the wee away from the skin, as it's not absorbent it lets the water go straight through it to the absorbent material of the nappy, so it keeps the bottom nice and dry or at least, not soaking wet.

As you know, nappies choices are very personal, as in what works or is liked by one is not always the best for everyone, but I hate hemp, I find it stinks, so I always go for bamboo as it doesn't smell. Microfibre dries the quickest but if it gets too full of wet it tends to let it go like a sponge if it's squeezed so prob not best for nights, and again, I think it smells when used for night nappies. Bamboo takes much longer to dry than mf, but doesn't smell and is still nice and absorbent, certainly more than just normal terry cotton and definitely more than fleece [wink[

Damn, that serves me right for being cheeky! is what I meant!

lollipopmother · 17/01/2009 13:21

Oh, but you were right to try and put something between the wrap and the nappy, if you feel the nappy doesn't fit well when you've got boosters in it (sometimes it makes the legs gape) then get yourself down to Tesco and buy some Tesco's microfibre cloths, they're 89p or similar and have three in a pack. They're brilliant, I use them in all my pocket nappies but would be perfect to put outside the nappy.

spongebrainbigpants · 19/01/2009 22:20

Thanks BDQ and lollipop - btw, I think you had every right to be cheeky! I'm very that I was stupid enough to think that fleece was absorbent - but science never was my strong point!

Is now a good time to tell you that I'm a teacher?!!

Have ordered the boosters from Babykind - thanks for the links .
