Has anyone seen mats with a waterproof backing for DS to roll and wiggle on while nappyless?

do you really need one? they have such little pees, a bit of kitchen roll will dab it up no probs.

He's 8months old and it soaked through the rug to the carpet. He rolls off the change mat so I wanted something a bit bigger.

I was on the look-out for one of these when DD was little. Didn;t have much joy, I'm afraid. I'm posting because I wanted to warn you - I bought one from Perfectly Happy People which said it had a waterproof backing, but my DD's wee still soaked through.
Hope someone comes along with a better recommendation for you.

Pampers bedmats for when you're training? I'm afraid I tried this nappy-free time and it stimulated my little one to wee and poo loads (probably a good thing!) I was never quite quick enough though so restricted nappy free time just before and after her bath every night as if she went on the tiles(lying on a towel or whatever) it wasn't a problem..

I have Tots Bots from here but not massive. Can measure mine if you are interested.

at being able to mop up wee with a bit of kitchen roll. I think 13wk old dd must have power wees!!

This may sound like an odd suggestion but you can get big square nappy mats from petshops for puppy training - how about trying them? You could always put a rug over it so they aren't in direct contact with the mat?

I had them for my pup (totally useless for puppy training btw, he just used to chew it up!) and I can assure you they have a totally waterproof backing. (as tested on the few occasions we managed to plonk him on the mat before he did a wee!)

How about the waterproof bed liners you can get, there are some nice ones out there that aren't plasticky and crinkly - I think Hippy chick do one. They should be big enough as they cover a single (or double?) bed.

nannyL · 14/01/2009 18:53

i would recommend a hippy choick bed mat thing

they are FAB.... the best bed protection you can buy IMO, when older you can use on or under the top sheet and they wash and tumble dry well...

given you will need and use something like this in a few years time, why not invest in it now, and use it as a baby mat too

when i have my own thats what i will do.

much more environmentaly friendky then disposable bed mats too, and although exoensive you make your money back with 4 packs of bed mats

I had some maternity mats left over from when I was expecting DS and use them for nappy free time - pretty cheap (£2 - £3 ish?) from Boots for a pack of 5. As they're designed to soak up broken waters, they're pretty absorbent!

nannyL · 14/01/2009 22:35

im just wondering why they sell maternity mats in packs of 5?

how many times do your wateras break?

sorry to go off topic!

apsie · 14/01/2009 22:48

Fair point - My waters broke at night so I was glad of mine - didn't actually get any contractions so ended up getting induced 2 days later, so used 2 mats while trying to sleep in the meantime. Can't imagine that's common though!

Lionstar · 15/01/2009 11:06

So true, I still have half a pack left having used up 2 during waters breaking (tried to go back to sleep ). Also used one under the sheet during the early days of breastfeeding in bed when I was leaking like crazy. One day I might conceive again and we'll get to use the rest of the pack!
