2yo fussy eater - but not necessarily unhealthy food, what to do??

Please help!! My 2yo has a quite limited, but healthy diet. By which I mean that he will eat literally ANY fruit, some veg, yogurt, pasta, bread, peanut butter, houmous and some meat (mostly in the form of mince). He won't touch cheese, fish, most meat, potatoes, eggs... I let him snack throughout the day, usually sitting at the table, until early afternoon then don't let him eat until teatime in the hope that he will eat a proper tea. The trouble is he rarely does. He knows and understands that if he doesn't eat his tea there is nothing else on offer except milk at bedtime and he still goes to bed hungry most nights. He has started waking up again at night sometimes and has complained about his tummy hurting a couple of times - I'm guessing it's hunger! I'm worried that if I don't persevere with getting him to eat a proper evening meal I am only going to end up encouraging his fussiness, but at the moment I seem to be losing the battle. What would you do??

Hi there. I know exactly how you feel. Your DS has a good variety of food going into him I would say. My DD2 who is also 2 barely eats a thing. Her eating has got really bad, today for instance she has had....
Cup of milk, no breakfast.
Apple at nursery.
Lunch was poached egg and 1 slice of bread cut into quarters, she ate 1 quarter piece of bread.
Grapes and 1 cracker for PM snack.
Dinner was shephards pie, with a swede and carrot mash top, she had 2-3 mouthfuls and spat it out.
Milk before bed.

Today has been a bad day with her eating, she isnt feeling brilliant I dont think. She is also skinny and doesnt put on much weight.

I feel reluctant to offer her yoghurts after meals if she doesnt eat her main meal and she didnt have one today, should I still offer do you think?

From what you are saying your DS looks like he eats well, I wouldnt be worried, i cant even get my DD to eat a sandwich!

DD1 was similar but not as bad as DD2 and she is now 6 yrs old and eats everything and anything! People do keep telling me 'it's just a phase!"
