Please and thank you - is it worth the effort of reminding your DC's?

It's certainly a long haul with the please and thank you reminders.

I personally think it's very important that these basic polite forms are learned as soon as possible. The later you leave it, the harder it is for them to adopt them as natural.

It's not like kids mind being asked to say please and thank you, is it? And learning to be charming and polite will take them a long long way in life.

I also think please/thank yous are very importand and have tried to instill this into DD. She is now 6y and is generally very polite, remembering p/t on almost all occasions. DD's school are also big on manners in this aspect.

This has been commented on, esp by older people. Sad really that people do comment - the fact that they thing it is something unusual these days.

I love it when boy ( 2.9ish) gets off teh bus and says an unpromted " fang you ver much" . So seemingly do most of the bus drivers.

I'm in the Ps and TYs ARE important camp.

Me too - very important! DS1 has been reminded for aeons - he is very nearly 3. They are finally starting to come out spontaneously some of the time - and he certainly knows when they should be used, as a raised eyebrow is all it takes to remind him. I am confident he'll get there, and it will be a Good Thing.

Cannot abide lack of manners - get apoplectic in my car when drivers I have let through on a narrow bit (lots of those where I live) can't even lift a finger to say thank you, and have been known to roll down the window and bellow at them
