I got this book and have read it, i think it sounds good. We are starting it today on our 2 boys, (4 and 2) they have visited time out a few times already! eek!

Anyone done/doing this?

We have done it and still do when I remember. Seems to work with varying degrees. Not so good when you are counting and a child counts back!

Nah didn't like it .It worked for teh first couple of days and then the dc got wise to it and like Nab said counted along .

We have used it for about three years. DD is 11, DS is 10 and DD2 is 6.
There are points where it gets tricky, but for answering back or counting alongside, or just refusing to go up to their rooms, I jsut start adding minutes.
DS took a step up the stairs and argued before he realised I was still counting and not arguing back and he got to 24 minutes in his room! The key to this is to show that you are the one in control.
Trust me, when you realise that you are only having to say 'That's 1, that's 2...' in the supermarket or at your friends house for lunch and they immediately stop, it is sooo nice!
We don't need to use it very much now, and the begginning is the hardest. Once I had to sit DS down in the middle of a department store and wait for 8 minutes! He never did it again!
We think it is great, but each to their own

I've used it and still do when necessary. It worked for us. I think it really only stops working when the grown up doesn't stick to it or carry through time outs etc - kids are very smart. Keep on and you will notice that eventually you only have to get to 'one!' and things should stop.

This method wasn't actually developed by the author of this book, it was used originally in Ireland many years ago - I've read a bit about it on-line.

Good luck
