I'm witting on behalf of my sister in spain who hasn't had a break/sleep since his birth. He has very bad colic and probably reflux He has rare moments of smiles and is better than when he was first born but has recently taken a downward turn again! The problem is that she has no help at all in Spain as there are no health visitors etc and could really do with someone to talk to about her demanding beautiful boy. Are there any simular suffers out there who have any advice,or perhaps know of any groups or help in the Terifa area.

As far as I'm aware if it's colic it should have cleared up by now - most likely has an underlying cause if still ongoing.

How is he fed? Is he putting on weight etc as he is supposed to?

I have loads of sympathy - was in a similar situation in France and just could not get anyone to listen to me. I ended up going abroad to have him treated.

Thanks for your help. He is breast fed and has always fed well, putting on average plus weight. We think he may be coming down with something but its very hard to tell when a baby cries so frequently. My 2.5 year old also had colic but had settled down by this time. What type of treatment? for colic/reflux? any info could help.

www.infantreflux.org

has loads of really useful tips for managing it.

If he is gaining well it's unlikely they would medicate him, and at 5 months she must be close to starting him on solids, which usually helps - it probably wouldn't hurt to try giving him some gaviscon, I think it's available over the counter and if he gets much better then she'll know it's reflux!

If he's bf then it could be something she is eating. I had to cut out dairy and oranges with my DS because he got an upset tummy and nappy rash whenever I ate either.

It is definately reflux, lots of gagging, sicking up and he is always happier in a more upright position. thanks for the website will get my sis to have a look.
