Musty smell in microfibre nappies

I know people have asked this before, but I can't find it.

My (borrowed) Lollipop microfibre nappies stink as soon as they are wet, even wet with water, but especially with pee. I've tried washing them at 60 with a few tablespoons of white vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser. That's helped a bit, but not got rid of the smell.

I usually wash at 40 every other day with a small amount of conventional non-bio detergent. At this time of year I dry inside on radiators overnight.

Any suggestions? My lovely Fluffles never did this.

I HATE microfibre nappies for this very reason!!! Could be detergent build-up? Try washing them (from clean) at 60 with no detergent in the wash at all, then rinse a few times.

That MAY help - but I just find microfibre stinks!

Do a cold water rinse on them before you wash them. It stops the stains/smells from setting. It can happen to all man made fibres, but this should do the trick.
I wouldn't do 60 on them as they can really only take a 40. Just wash them (clean) a few times at 40 without detergent to remove any detergent build up then when you use them again on your baby do a prewash or quickwash or whatever it is called on your machine before doing a 40 with detergent. Only use about 1/3 of what the manufacturer recommends,
Hope that makes sense.

I think that microfibre smells like wet dog!

Agree about the wet dog, lollipop, but disagree, about the washing temperature, Arja. The laundry labels on both Fluffles and BumGenius say 60 degrees.

Funnily enough though, My Fluffles pong and my BumGenius don't.

I generally wash at 40 but think pooey nappies should really be washed at 60 to kill bacteria (especially true if you've got a baby and a toddler in cloth at the same time).
