What is your routine for your 1 year old?

Hello. I would be very grateful if people could post your 1 year old's routine please?
I have never been one for a strict routine or anything but at the moment, the last few weeks, I think we need to make a few changes. She seems to be growing out of having 2 naps but won't stay up long enought to have just one! And then sometimes her naps are clashing with meal times etc. Anyway, having a new baby in April so would like to make sure DD is sorted and that we have more of a routine so who ever looks after her for me while I am in hospital, knows exactly what to do and when.

Thank you

You don't say what your situation is, i.e. are you still at home with DD or does she go to nursery or toddler groups some days for example? You might find that what suits her best is a variable routine. Our DS for example has nursery 2 days a week where they only get one nap, this makes him very tired as really he still needs more sleep but he manages by having extra sleep (2 good naps) the following day (luckily the 2 nursery days are not consecutive so he can catch up in between!). On our other days it tends to vary between one and two naps as well, or one "proper" nap and one little catnap in the car for instance. Depending on your circumstances that might be a suitable compromise for you too until she is ready to settle down to one nap permanently? Our niece does a similar thing, she is older (3) and starting to grow out of naps altogether so she currently has a nap about every 2nd day, as she doesn't need one every day but gets too tired if she doesn't nap at all. (I won't post our routine as it is so variable at the moment that I would have to put several different ones!). Also by April it's quite likely things will have changed again and by then she may be ready for just one nap.

Sorry. I am at home with her, but I am a childminder so need her to be awake for school runs etc (which is why it is so annoying if she doesn't go to bed on time as she then isn't awake for the morning school run and I have to wake her up which I hate doing). Yes we will def be having a flexible routine, I would hate to have to do things at exact times, I have always been flexible (fed on demand etc). But I just wanted to see a rough guide to what other babies are doing to see if I can get some good ideas iyswim? She is struggling with the naps and the problem is, if she has 2, then she won't go to bed at 7pm. But giving her 1 is very hard as she becomes over tired and won't sleep. So having a bit of a problem! If it wasn't for the school runs I would just not worry about if she goes to bed a bit late but I hate waking her up. DH works shifts so can sometimes leave her asleep with him but it doesn't always work out right.

what is she having at the moment? I had the intention of having a strict routine before he was born however, the baby had other ideas. What he does now is a routine that he got into himself thank god.

I know you want to be flexible but what times do you have to do school runs at etc as ideally you obviously want ones that fit around this so if you are going to try a more structured routine sit down and work out which times would suit both of you. What i'm trying to say is you want to be flexible but the baby might want her naps at the same time which might not suit your times.

DD - she's 1 in 2 weeks

Home days
6.30ish bottle
8ish nap 1 hour
9ish weetabix and banana
11.30 cup of milk and nap (sometimes)
1ish lunch
3ish snack and nap (sometimes)
4.30ish dinner
6.30ish bath, bottle, bed

Nursery days
6.30ish bottle
7.30 nap 1 hour
8.30 weetabix, off to nursery
11.30 lunch
12.30 nap for hour
2pm snack/bottle
3.30 dinner
5pm pick up from nursery
6.30 bath bottle bed

DD goes to nursery 3 days a week so i try and use the home days to try and catch up on naps. Hope this helps!
