anyone have an Ikea cot?

hi, I've been looking around for a while but most cots I've seen are very low even at their highest position and we wanted one that had quite a high position for when the baby is wee to prevent us from getting back-ache.

The Ikea ones have the height we've been looking for at their highest position so would be great for us when the baby is little (and are a great price too)

but we were wondering how well they hold up later on when there's a boisterous toddler in them - most ikea stuff I've come across in the past has been a bit fragile?

any experiences?

ours lasted well for two little bosterious boys (DS2 is 20 months and still going strong!)

great! do you know which one you have?

also, which is better? ones with solid wood at the top and tail, or ones with bars on all 4 sides?

DD is nearly 2.5 and is still in her Ikea cot. She's never climbed out and hasn't shown any inclination to do so though she quite likes bouncing up and down in it! We have a deep sprung Ikea matress too which is as good as the day it was bought as is the cot. Height wise, I'm only 5'1" and at the highest setting it was great but a bit more awkward on the low setting until DD was mobile enough to be placed in it standing up.

I think it was a Leskvik (sp?) or similar fairly 'traditional' looking one. I think the current incarnation has solid ends whereas ours has bars all around. I don't really think either is better than the other.

yep mine has been through one ds (now 5) and now on his sister (8mos). Have bought a new mattress in between though...it was about £40 I think - white with bars all the way around...

I've got an Ikea cot that is 13 years old and is now on its 5th child . It's got bars all round and 3 height positions for the base so they may not make that one any more.

ours is bars all the way round - we went for a cheap cot with a more expensive matress

'fraid I don't know the name of it

We have the antique pine style one (was part of a range including changing table drawers and a chest thing. It works brilliantly, was a great price and is not fragile at all.

The only thing is that it doesn't have a drop-down side so when the cot is lowered to its lowest point I (a short person) can not reach him properly when he's lying down. That's my only criticism though.

Ours was used my my friend for her 3 boys then my dd until she was 3 and then now ds2 21mths is now in it
It has one screw missing so we've lashed it with leather tie and it's still perfect
