How to start Nappy training and should I use pull ups

Help Dd 2.6 yrs has already done a poo on the toilet and I think she is ready to start potty training but I am a first time mum and have no clue how to go about this.

My MIL says pull ups are a must but just feel like another expense and would prolong the stress.

I will need to get nursery on board with my agreed plan of action so really want to give this some thought.

Thanking you in advance from a very confused mummymoo

Some kids get a bit confused with pull-ups, thinking they have carte blanche to crap themselves. DD1 was fine with them, although she really did need to wee on her feet a few times before she completely got the idea.

DD2, I'm going to get some pull ups. I don't think she's ready, but she's very interested, and likes to sit on the loo for a minute (hasn't done anything so far), and that's easier with pull ups.

Personally I think pull ups are confusing - is the child expected to think they are a nappy or pants? They can have their uses, but I've never found one! (I know lots of people will disagree).

If your dd is using the toilet, I would try to have some bare bum time at home, stay in as much as possible for the next few days, ask her every hour if she wants a wee, encourage her to go and try, whoop with joy when she achieves a wee or poo in the right place, and stickers/chocolate buttons if you think it will help.

We've been doing this for a few days now and dd is getting better at recognsing the signs of when she needs to go, but I think she will probably need reminding for a few months before she can reliably judge for herself.

Good luck
