Life after nappies - sore girly bits

My DD has never had any problems with nappy rash etc but since she has been potty trained, she always is slightly red on her girly bits. She wipes down after using the toilet and I wash her properly in the morning and evening. Also putting powder on which seems to help but as soon as I don't, she gets a bit sore again.

Any ideas?

Don't use powder down there - it has been linked to cervical cancer .

Does she play with herself and make herself sore that way? They often do at that age.

get her to still use baby wipes

Thanks for all your replies. The poweder doesn't actually touch or go into her vagina, its more around the outer edges if you know what I mean.

I have never seen her touch or play with herself - we are going through a clingy phase so we are together ALL the time (Schnullerbacke wipes the sweat from her brows in sheer exhaustion).

Also from what I can tell, always wipes herself from top to bottom so am really not sure how it can be linked.

Am still a little puzzled though. When our kids are not potty trained yet and are still in nappies - I don't know about you - but I didn't change her nappy every single hour in case she has done a wee (different when doing a poo obviously) so why wasn't she sore then?

Thanks guys.

DD has this.

At first the doctor prescribed an antifungal cream, which made it worse. We went back and saw a different doctor who diagnosed eczema that had become a bit infected. Prescribed a steroid and antibacterial cream which cleared it up in a week.

When it starts to flare up, we use the cream for a couple of days and then its fine.

If your DD has eczema elsewhere, it might be worth checking.

It could also be that she's not wiping properly and is still a bit damp OR that she's getting her pants a bit damp inbetween visits to the toilet, and the damp is irritating - this happened with my DD and I found that asking her to go a bit more frequently helped and when sore I'd use a bit of nappy balm (Green baby I think it was)
