Do you check on your DC before you go to bed?

Either DP or I check on DD before we hit the sack.

But it seems that we do different 'checks.' What do you do?

Ds [16] usually goes to bed later then me so no ... but I have been known to check on him if hes not up by 2pm in the school holidays

Pawslikepaddington · 05/01/2009 23:27

I co sleep so just clamber in with her-shouldn't really as she's nearly 5, but it means I don't have to put the heating on

RGPargy · 05/01/2009 23:31

I always go in and check that DD (13 months) is warm enough and breathing. However lately she's become increasingly easy to wake up at the slightest noise in her room so instead of DP and i going in there, putting our hands on her chest and cooing over her, now it's just me that creeps in there (ninja stylee), turns off her nightlight and puts a blanket over her (coldest room in the house!).

I check on mine before i sleep if i wake in the night and as i get up earlier than them on the early morning - i make sure their covers are on the room is ok not too cold or too warm nd that theres nothing in bed like books or stuff that can dig into them- im not a particularly gushy mum but i thank god every night they are home and safe as a boy from ds school was killed in 2007 ......nothing wrong with that is there? even if they are 15,13 and 8 its true tho and if im honest i know dh checks too.

Gateau · 06/01/2009 15:17

Either DH or/and I do. Always. We check he is lying comfortably, the right way up and that he is tucked in.
I also like to look at him peacefully sleeping - what a cherub.

Acinonyx · 06/01/2009 19:37

I check just about every time I go upstairs or get up in the night. Dh slightly less. I check blankets, get toys out of the bed, turn the dimmer down even further.

Tortoise · 06/01/2009 19:45

I used to check on all 4 (now 4,5,9 and 11) but i now have a futon sofa bed downstairs and forget to go up and check they are ok. DD1 or/and DD2 often get into my bed in the night anyway!

mummynumnum · 06/01/2009 21:11

Breathing check-Coo at her and stroke and kiss her head and then run away when she starts moving.

whitenoise · 06/01/2009 21:17

i pull the covers round them properly, usually put DS2 back IN his bed and poke them enough so they move. mine are 5.5, 3.5 and 10 months. I don't poke the 10 month old-that would be a disaster but i do check his breathing.

I had stopped doing such thorough checks and just peeped in until GGG and her LO

FeelingLucky · 06/01/2009 21:19

DD (19 months)
I check breathing and put hand on forehead to make sure she's not running a temperature. If she's in a weird position, I reposition her.
And in this cold weather, put a blanket over her grobag and put turn the radiator in her room to a low setting so it's not she can enjoy a bit of warmth when heating comes on in morning.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 06/01/2009 21:21

He's 7. I still check he's breathing.

Thankfully his adenoids are such that you can tell by just sticking your head round the door!

smartiejake · 06/01/2009 22:15

Mine are 10 and 12 and I always check on them before I go to bed.

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 06/01/2009 22:21

yes i check dd not under her covers as she is a sweat monster (6) i kiss her and sniff and she never murmurs or moves - i could probably set off a small bomb and she owuld not wake. Ds (2) i go in ninja style and he shuffles as is so easily woken so i know hes alive, i put cover back on him and make sure dummies and iggle piggle are all within reach. I then do the awwwwwwwww thing and fall into my own pit. Throgh the night i run into ds at slightest murmur and reposition said items.

Ingles2 · 06/01/2009 22:25

I always check, usually remove 1/2 dozen cuddlies from ds2's head, tuck them in, and steal a kiss.
It's the best bit of the day isn't it?

Hulababy · 06/01/2009 22:28

Yes, we both go in and give her a kiss before we got o bed.

SixSpot · 06/01/2009 22:29

Always check!

DS1 - check whether the radiator by his bed is on, check he is covered up, check he is actually asleep , check the bed is not full of books etc

DS2 - remove two dozen cuddly toys, several books and a large torch of the sort favoured by nightwatchmen

DS3 - remove his socks, put his nightlight on, shut his door

Always check both my DS' to get whether they are still gorgeous...luckily they always are. If they are uncovered or half way out teh bed then I sort them out, but in all honesty, its just the chance to see them asleep and give them a little kiss.

fleacircus · 07/01/2009 12:18

DD is 12mths; I listen at the door until I hear her breathing, breath held, terrified of waking her. But just reading this thread is making me look forward to a future when I can tiptoe in and gaze at her!

honeybunmum · 07/01/2009 12:24

I have to admit I do not check on them at all unless I hear something. They are good sleepers and I wouldn't want to wake them. I would be furious if someone came into my room and disturbed me so I wouldn't do it to them. I can understand people wanting to check that babies are still breathing but why would any of you have reason to think your child would not be breathing? do they all have medical conditions? I'm sorry but I think you are all a teeny bit neurotic if that is your real reason, all the other reasons I can kind of understand (tucking them in, removing toys etc) but my DC sleep very well without any intervention.

HensMum · 07/01/2009 12:29

Not normally, I'm too scared of waking him! And he's fully monitored up and uses a sleeping bag so there's no real need.

However, last night when I went to bed, I found DS's beloved teddy tucked up in our bed (where DS had been playing with him earlier) so tiptoed in to put him back in the cot. DS can't have missed him too much as he fell asleep OK but didn't want to risk it!

meemar · 07/01/2009 12:29

DH have always go in together. Check they are covered up and not in strange sleeping positions.

Then we give them a kiss and usually sniff their hair(especially if it's been washed)

They are now 5 and 3, and it is habit for us and is a conscious reminder of how much we love them, especially if it's been a tough day!

Not unless they're ill - our doors make way too much noise when closing to risk waking them up on the way out!

DaddyJ · 07/01/2009 12:36

Not at the moment but will do once she is not in her grobag anymore.
