What do your DCs do when they get in from school?

My eldest DS just used to chill, watch tv,play computer etc. My younger twins age 6 just seem to keep going. Colouring, games, toys etc. They never seem to need to or know when to stop and relax. Perhaps its that they have each other to egg them on. There is a 9 year gap so eldest DS only had himself. Just curious about other families.

I a CM, so after school my house is just like an after-school club.

It's snack and drinks, then they always want an activity such as colouring, hama beads, playdough etc.

Play a bit of wii sometimes.

My dd (5yo) loves "arts and crafts" meaning colouring in, glueing, scissors, anything in fact that involves paper! After that she loves playing with her dolls and fighting with the 9 year old brother!

My ds, 9, would play wii all day if i let him, so other than that he torments his sister!

Tea is quick, sandwiches etc, so not much time for a break.

I try to help them avoid the tv, but sometimes its inevitable.

whitenoise · 05/01/2009 18:33

DS1(5.5) moans, mopes and whines usually

sellorrenovate · 05/01/2009 18:34

DS(6) has a snack, does school reading/spellings then plays. Sometimes a short go on the computer but we have a no TV rule until after bath/before bed. I find Cbeebies radio (Channel 7 1400-1700) is a great TV substitute. Also he eats at 5pm.

I think the energy levels of the twins has been a shock after DS1 who is so laid back even his teachers say he is almost horizontal.

dd1 (8)
does homework and then plays on pooter, has a snack

Morloth · 05/01/2009 18:42

DS (4.5) usually needs a snack and then just plays/messes about. I do try to do something with him for a bit. He is also allowed an hour of TV time and he can either watch a DVD or play the xbox during that time.

In the summer, I take the snack with me and we go straight to the park after school.

Takver · 05/01/2009 19:15

dd (6.5) varies massively, she generally has a snack then sometimes reads (especially if we've been to the library or she has a new book), sometimes plays with playmobil or whatever, sometimes hassles me to play a game or whatever

Kbear · 05/01/2009 19:19

They EAT me out of house and home whilst watching tv or playing DS for a hour to relax, then dinner about 5.30 then reading, spellings whatever until bed around 7.30-8. They are nearly 10 and 7. Different if there are clubs but DD only has two and DS only has one.

willitbeahappynewyear · 05/01/2009 19:25

Yes,we have Beavers on Tues and tennis on Weds. I look forward to those.Good excuse for a quick and easy tea and something to wear em out ready for bed.

my twin boys of 6 generally come home and collapse on beanbags and read or do lego. we get home about 3.45 and I do supper at 4.30 or 4.45 because they are starving! Then they are normally happier and will do spelling/reading or colouring or chase each other round the house with swords. Bath at 6.30 and bed by 7.30pm latest (often earlier).

The early tea has been a lifesaver, snacks just aren't enough.

6y DD

Monday - does Playball after school so home after 5pm. When we get home she will do her homework - normally practise some spellings. After that just relaxes, maybe watch a bit of TV, read, do craft, play with her toys, help cook, etc.

Tuesday - straight home. Do reading and have dinner. Then plays before time to leave for drama club at 6:30

Wednesday - our free night. May have a friend back to play or go to a friend's house til 6ish. Else home to relax. We fit in homework too - usually takes abut 10 minutes.

Thursday - play time again. Had piano lessons starting next week, so they will be at 5:30pm. Fit in10 min homework.

Friday - I collect friend's 2 DDs (who are good friends with my DD anyway) from school before collecting DD. Lots of play

willitbeahappynewyear · 05/01/2009 19:37

My teenage DS eats me out of house & home too. When he gets in he makes his "speciality" toasted sandwich even though we eat at 5.30pm.

DS1 is 4 so not alot of experience so far but
we are home about 4pm he has juice and a drink then plays with his toys although we have Cbeebies on and sometimes he watches it.
They eat at 5pm - no TV after food till bedtime (newly itroduced but seems to be going down well)
Bath 6.15-6.30 start - Bed by 7pm

LunarSea · 05/01/2009 19:42

ds1(7) spends most of his time doing one sport or another (or travelling to/from them). Monday means football training, Tuesday is after school club then tennis, Wednesday is swimming (followed by tea at Grandmas's), Thursday is ski race training, Friday at the moment is just skiing again, but will be more football training as well after half term. Other than eating and homework the little time he does have left at home is spent either playing with PC/DS/Wii or watching TV in the winter (am not worried about this as he spends more than enough time being active), or outside riding his bike or on the green playing football/cricket/rugby/whetever the game of the day among the local kids is.

My charges (I'm a mothers help) get in from school at 3.30, and if they don't have activities till later they do their homework straight away for about an hour, then they go to their activities. On the days when they do have activities straight away, the do these and then come back, have tea and then homework for an hour.
They don't have much free time. They all however want to do lots of activities which means no free time.

threestars · 05/01/2009 22:03

I was wondering today what other people's dc do.
DS is 4, started full days today. He complained in the car that school "makes me do things all the time until nearly night-time. When I go home I want to watch little boys programmes"
So it was tv for an hour, reading practice for 10 minutes, then supper at 5pm, playing (usually superhero) then bath at 6pm. Plays quietly in bedroom until his sister is asleep. Bed around 7.30pm.

willitbeahappynewyear · 06/01/2009 14:59

threestars that is so cute!
