duplo is BIGGEr, better for 2 years plus...
lego can be very small so better for over 5s.

duplo are made of weaker plastic and come in bigger sizes. There's no other difference. ds started having Lego at 3, just make sure your little one has stopped putting things in their mouth.

duplo is more like megablocks but a little smaller. Lego is the tiny stuff. Ds has his cousin's duplo that he loves and uses every day so we got him some lego for christmas - some of the smaller pieces are a little tricky for him to use but he loves it. He says it is his best Christmas present! I think it is a great investment as they play with it for years .. and it is good for their fine motor skills.

quadro is about 1 inch per unit (I think similar size to mega blocks)
duplo is half that size per unit
and
lego is half the size of duplo.

FM, my DS1 (4.9) got lego for Christmas and loves it, my DS2 (2.9) does too.
DS2 loved Duplo, but he has outgrown it now tbh, I would go for a standard lego starter kit and add to it (DS1 got some vehicles etc from relatives which were far too complex for him) from there. It is really quite addictive, I can't ever remember liking it as a child, but I am loving t now

Where, if anywhere, can you get quadro now? I heard of it prior to Christmas and looked around for it, including on Lego's own site, but to no avail. Am I missing something?

I have a 6yo and a 2yo DD. Both love playing with Duplo. Older DD has lego too. Think Quadro is too big for a 4yo. Duplo would be a good bet ... DD2 got the dinosaur set for xmas and they both love it.
