Best car seat for a big 4 month old?

DD is growing at the speed of knots. She is starting to strain her 6 - 9 sleepsuits and is over 17 pounds at 13 weeks. She just seems to have a big build - everything in proportion but looks squished in her infant carrier (maxi cosi) and her feet are already over the bottom (but I know that doesnt matter).

I obviously need and want to keep her rear facing at this point so am going to go for one that starts off rear facing and can then be turned. We have a scenic (53 model). I was going to go for the duo plus isofix but that is just forward facing - didnt expect her to grow this quickly. We have another stage 1 seat (just forward facing) but were going to replace it for her as its a bit worn out.

Any ideas? Thanks xxx

I think she'll be fine as long as her head doesn't go over the top of the seat. [[http://www.mothercare.com/Britax-First-Class-car-seat/dp/B000M8EPWE Britax first class is rear and forward facing.

umm not too sure but my DS was a big boy and at 9months I put him in a Maxi Cosi XP Best carseat in the world for us - he was in it until he was 3.5yrs - well worth the money

Would you consider looking at seats that are designed to stay rearward facing till 3 or 4? In Scandinavia it's the norm for children to face backwards until about this age (they have a more stringent test and no-one's managed to make a forward facing seat that passes it) and the seats are gradually becoming more available in the UK. You might get more options - when we were looking there were only a couple of Grp 0+1 seats in the UK, and the Britax first class just didn't fit in the car at all. We got a Concord Ultimax (which did fit) when DD couldn't be wedged into her infant carrier any more, but have just replaced it with a BeSafe IziKid in order to keep her facing backwards - wish I'd had the knowledge then as we'd have saved buying a seat...

Have a look at www.rearfacing.co.uk/ for more info, and/or talk to the Essex County Council Road Safety Team, who are very knowledgeable and will have some of the most up to date info on available seats and weight ranges, and may be able to offer advice on what will fit in your car.
