Gina Fords sleeping & eating routine for 6 week old?

Hello,

I've never been a huge Gina Ford follower, but out of interest can anyone give me a bullet point on what she suggests as an eating and sleeping routine for a 6 week old?

I had the book somewhere from DS1 baby days but think I've loaned it to someone as I never really used it.

Thanks

Would also be up to hear what other professionals (Baby Whisperer etc) suggest if anyone knows!

Depends if the baby is BF or FF.
My experience of BF is feeding on demand and ignoring GF.

please dont try for a routine if BF

I know many people who think she is fantastic personally wouldnt push for a strict routine in a baby of 6 weeks

4-6 weeks has feed times as 7am, 10.30am, 2/2.30pm, 5pm, 6.15pm, 10.30pm with sleep times as 9-10am, 11.30/12-2/2.30pm and 4.15/5pm. Max daily sleep is 4 1/2 hours. She also has expressing times as 6.45am, 9.45am and 10pm.

6-8weeks has max daily sleep as 4 hours with the naps as 9-9.45, 11.45/12-2/2.30 and 4.30-5pm and feeds at 7am, 10.45am, 2/2.30pm,6.15pm, 10.30pm

the expressing times for the 6-8weeks are 6.45am and 10pm.

The BW suggests 3 hourly feeds till 4months with sleep times when your lo shows signs of tiredness which is normally around 2hours after the last sleep ended.(or a bit less sometimes especially in the early days)

My experience of FF is also feed pretty much 'feed on demand'. Both my (FF) babies settled into a 3-4 hour feeding routine of their own accord after a couple of weeks, but when they did give me the signals that they wanted feeding sooner than that, I fed them. No sense in not feeding a baby that is giving you the cues that it is hungry. It won't help them sleep better.

That is one of the (many) things I don't understand about GF and the like, but hey ho.. tis not the thread for bashing routines!

Good luck

p.s. I think the Baby Whisperer, in a nutshell, advocates a routine based on the baby feeding every 3-4 hours, then having a couple of hours of activity, then a couple of hours nap. It;s called E.A.S.Y. Google it, there are loads of internet forums about it

GF also says to feed a baby outside these times if they are hungry and to never let a baby goo hungry.
