Ds is 2.5. Has had a potty around for a while, sits on it fairly happily. So we thought we'd just have a go sticking him in some Thomas pants over Christmas, just at home, and seeing how he got on. Problem is I think it might have been too successful - he absolutely loves the pants and wants to wear them all the time but it's been three days now and only one wee on the potty. Many wees and one poo on poor Thomas. I can just about get him into pull-ups (special going out pants) under protest to go out but as soon as we get home he wants the pants on again. I would have given up by now and put him back in nappies to try again a bit later, as there doesn't really seem to be any improvement, but don't really want to tell him he can't wear the pants!

Am I just expecting too much too soon and should carry on with the accidents and hope he gets it? Most of the time he gets quite upset when he has an accident, but sometimes doesn't even seem to notice... Advice gratefully received!

Hi

I don;t have any advice I'm afraid but just t say you are not alone. I am having the exact same predicament with my son (who coincidentally also loves Thomas- only time he has weed was while watching Thomas as otherwise he won't sit on the potty for more than about 30 secs!). I have just posted to see if anyone can help me as I don't know what to do next either!

Thanks henryhsmum - good to know we're not alone! Will check out your thread. Ds will sit on the potty for ages if read to or watchin Thomas, then get up and promptly wee on the carpet... dh back to work tomorrow after being off for Christmas so I expect I will be spending a lot of time mopping up puddles on my own...

i would ditch pull ups all together...

either you are potty training all not...

if you still have no success in a weeks time (maybe?) then consider back into nappies

IMO pull ups just confuse children... they either where nappies where they dotn have to use the loo or real cloth pants where they do... and if they cant get it then maybe he isnt ready therefor needs to be in nappies and get the pants out again in a month or so time if he show signs of being ready!

also when me excharge was a bit older... and had been potty trained for months an became lazy (aged 36 months) she got to choose her pants in the morning (she would choose princess ones) then when wet she woudl be given her palin boring white knickers with no pictures for the rest of the day (but i dont think thats fair to your child yet as he is clearly just learning)...
she didnt like thise pants and it certainly made her stop being lazy!
