I am looking to do level 2 in both but cannot comitt to the same day every week.

I was under the impression that the learn direct ones are run on a drop in basis, but then someone else said no they aren't.

I rang LD and she call handler didn't really seem to understand what I was asking.

Not sure about Learn Direct - can you ring your local college and ask about Open Learning and Skills for Life or google for your area as there are charities which can provide it free too?

The local college do do it Liz but it is set classes each week as is the adult ed centre.

I thought i'd found an online course for it but it i think i read it wrong and it is a course to get you up to the level you'd need to take the test iyswim.

I could do the gcse online and with English that would be fine, but with Maths i'm not sure I am ready for gcse level yet.

I did level 2 in numeracy with learndirect who are in my local library. I went in in the evenings. I am rubbish at maths but did alot of the practice work on the bbc educational site and then did most of the learndirect stuff at home on my pc. I did it in 2007.

I am sure you can do most of it at home yourself but obviously if you get stuck you can book in with learndirect for help. I could book in whenever suited me, didn't have to be set times every week. You just have to go to learndirect to get the initial assessment and then to sit your level 2 test.

As I said, I did most of the work myself at home on the bbc website, which I think explained things really well, and on the learndirect website. If I can manage it that way so can anybody. When I was at school I wasn't allowed to sit the equivalent of a maths gcse, was told I woudln't be able to manage it, I had to do arithmatic (sp) instead.

Hope you manage to get something to suit.

I could go into the centre whenever suited me, which was usually evenings or saturdays

Thanks Colie. I think I am going to go into my local centre and ask them as it seems I might get more joy that way.
