Would you move to a quilt and pillow at 12 months?

Currently DD (11.5 months) is in her babygrow and sleep bag at night but she has been waking for a week or so (with a cough) and I think that once she is awake she then feels a bit cold (despite central heating being on all night for her).

Is it too early to move to a quilt?

I heard that a pillow is ok at 12 months too but am not sure that she has any real need for this.

Hi pamelat, My DS had a pillow from 12 months. His bedroom is quite cold and it seems to keep him a bit snugger round the ears, rather than a chilly mattress. I just made sure it was flat so wouldn't bunch up round his airways and he's been fine.

As for duvet, there's no reason why you can't but if she moves in the night and couldn't pull it back over herself then she really would be cold (!). Could you put an extra layer on inside the sleeping bag? I have a thermal vest (from M+S) which I put on DS on cold nights and it really keeps him cosy.

yes, my dc - all of them, had to have pillow at 10 mo. all were perfectly mobile and basically wouldn't sleep without one ( had got too used to sleeping on mine y'see)
the quilt things are 4 tog and ok from earlier than 12mo anyway, if you mean a duvet and cover then it should be fine if your lo is mobile and not tiny. I still tuck the duvet under the bottom of the bed, even for my 3&5yo

I went onto a cot bed duvet and pillow at 12 months, but my DS doesn't use the pillow, I just shove it to the side of the bed so he doesn't bash his head on the wall.

He often kicks the duvet off but his room is pretty warm so it doesn't matter so much, but if it was colder I think I would have tried to keep him in a sleeping bag for longer tbh. It may be better to add more clothes or put a blanket over the top if you are worried about the cold?

Thanks everyone, she is quite big (22lbs) and very mobile.

I will go and investigate cot bed quilts today.

She is still waking a lot, which is a new thing for us at this stage

IMHO Dunelm Mill have the best prices on both the quilts, pillows and cover sets
