How old was your dc when you switched from a HHB to a booster cushion ...and how old when you stopped using a booster altogether?

Just interested really.

Dd1 is 2cm shy of not needing a booster cushion at all (133cms) and will be 9yo in less than a fortnight. She is delighted at the prospect of not needing a booster, but she still seems v young to me to not have one. How old was your dc when they no longer used a booster?

Dd2 will be 6 in 2 months time and wants to use dd1s booster cushion rather than her Maxi Cosy rodi, but again, I think she is too young. At what age did you switch your LO to a normal booster cushion?

If you haven't yet done either, what do you think you'll do when the time comes?

Mine are 3, 5 and 7 and are all on the rodi. DS1 is 134cm and tbh I can't remember the height for not needing one but he will be on it for wuite a while yet I expect.

You mean car seats? I think the law says DCs have to be 11 or 5ft tall to not have to use a booster seat. DS was 10.8 or thereabouts when he stopped using one altogether... yes, he's tall!!

12StoneNeedsToBe10 · 31/12/2008 14:32

that's 11yo or 5ft tall... obviously!

I thought the law was 135cm tall or 12 years old?

Sorry 12 stone, yes I mean car seats

I don't think that has been very well thought out then. My son is already 134cm at 7 yrs 9 months and he isn't excessively tall for his age. I wonder if there comes a point when with these seats they are safer out of it than still in?

12StoneNeedsToBe10 · 31/12/2008 14:39

No I'm sure I'm right Plonker... the reason it's stuck in my head is that my ex-next-door-neighbour's DS was also coming up to 11 but is very erm... vertically challenged shall we say. He's just glad his mum doesn't drive but hates getting lifts anywhere as he should still use a booster cushion, even now and he's approaching 12.

Have found this:

It says here that children over 135cm tall or 12 years or older don't need a booster. Does anyone know of any negatives for continuing to use one if your child is over 135cm?

Ah sorry Plonker - you're right. It's 4'5'' and under 12...

Try here!

My DS was 135cm tall before he was 8, too.

12StoneNeedsToBe10 · 31/12/2008 14:43

In my defence it's been a while and DS is now 5' 7''

PlonkerAlkaseltzerInMyGlass · 31/12/2008 14:47

lol 12 stone

So, I know what the law says, but what I need to know is if anyone knows of any negatives for leaving her on a booster cushion. She doesn't seem old enough not to have one.

How about from a HBB to a booster cushion? Any thoughts?

The only thing that comes to mind would be the positioning of the seatbelt. A taller DC on a booster would have the seatbelt in the wrong place??
