DS 12 wks and very noisy/unsettled sleeper. Thinking about moving him into his own room for my own sanity/sleep but worried he's just too little.

DS is still in our room at 2yrs. Our house is a weird layout and I'm not one to be stumbling around a cold house in the middle of the night! I'm also a worrier and I sleep much better when he's near and so does he.
I personally wouldn't consider moving a baby into their own room before 6 months. I know they are just guidelines but I think they are there for a reason and I don't think the possible consequences are worth the risk IMO.

6 months but it's still very fluid with the DCs coming into our bed to sleep all the time.

7 months and 6 months respectively - I had trouble moving my dd out in fact as it was obvious that we were keeping her awake during the night yet theres a horrible space where her cot used to be

also agree that the guidelines are important - some people would be all over posters who smoked etc and yet would move their kids early.

both went into their own rooms the day we brought them home from hospital
DS was 7 days old
DD was 2 days old
the best decision I ever made, never had any sleep problems with either of them

CoteDAzur · 01/01/2009 13:38

4 months.

Ds1 at 10-12 weeks (can't remember exactly). He changed from being a non-sleeping baby to a sleeping one overnight (think I was keeping him awake and vice versa)

Ds2 at 2 days old.

Dc1 around 12wks
Dc2 around 6wks as he grunted a lot and very loudly.
Dc3 and dc4 not sure.
Dc5 was stayed in our room until 6m mainly due to the fact that we almost lost her due to what the hospital classed as near-miss cot-death at 8wk old.
Next 4 babies stayed in with us until at least 6m. Although we still have the cot up in our room for dc9 to get into when she wants.

DD was 12 weeks - and slept for a 4 hour stretch for the first time during her first night in her own room. Having to go to her room in the middle of winter to BF was so much less hardship when I got the occassional 4 hours sleep!

I am convinced it was right for us all at the time and would do it again regardless of the guidelines (we have no other risk factors...) - perhaps, if she had been a deeper/less noisy sleeper, or if I was a better sleeper, we would've shared for longer...

DD was 13 weeks. I have her door closed and ours open and I still wake up if she even mutters during the night.

PavlovtheCat · 04/01/2009 22:30

7-8 months

thumbwitch · 04/01/2009 22:33

DS went into his cot at 5 1/2 mo - we co-slept and by then we were starting to disturb each other's sleep - both of us slept better once he was in his cot.
No monitor but his room is right next door and I had both doors open so I could hear the first whimper.

quint · 04/01/2009 22:38

DD1 2 weeks her snuffling kept me awake and I kept disturbing her

DD2 about 4 months - only when we were brave enough to put the girls in together as we only have a 2 bed flat. Luckily DD2 was a quieter sleeper than DD1 - could have been cos she was a summer baby (DD1 winter)

I think the best time to do it is when its right for you and your family, books and statistics can only go so far

Mine was 3 months and she was fine and got an angelcare thingy for the cot, which is an alarm in case the baby stops breathing. It gives peace of mind, but the bloody thing wont stop beeping. It does your head in during the night. The monitor and everythings ok. Dont suppose anyone knows how to turn the beeping off?
