Milton? ds2 has had the worst dihorrea (sp) for 2 days now and it has really stained his nappies. Can I soak them in Milton or ace? I need to get the clean again in a hurry as well.

I don't think Milton would get stains out would it, it's just a steraliser rather than a bleach as far as I know. You could use Napisan, people say it's awful but I don't believe it's that bad, just make sure you do a proper wash with detergent afterwards to get all the chemicals out.

yep i use napisan don't really belive it is awful stuff never damaged any of my nappies

I soaked mine in vanish crystal white over night (want to get them spotless again for next baby) which did the trick then washed them and they look beautiful again now.

when dd was a baby, I emptied the steriliser into a bucket and kept it for steeping vests etc - the Milton solution worked well for whites

Can you hang them out and let them UV bleach...much kinder to the nappies, the environment and your DS's bottom. They don't need actual sunlight, any UV will do, it'll just take a bit longer at this time of year.

napisan is bad for the environment rather than bad for the nappies as far as I understand it. there are more environmentally nappy soaks available if soaking is your preferred way though.

I use Mothercare's smart nappy soak and i find it really good for keeping my nappies white and gets rid of stains well too, i think it is much better than napisan environmentally and it doesn't smell so chemically.

You know Milton gets rid of mould on fabrics? My pushchair had mould spots on it underneath (wee and sick which I hadn't noticed and Milton gets rid of it!! I use it on all sorts of things now, because it doesn't bleach.

Thisisyesterday ... My mum would have your guts for garters. tut tut.
Soak them in Napisan until they are 'clean' drain then make a Napisan paste and rub over the worst of the stain. Wash on high. Well this is what I did with my two's terry nappies.
Oh, and if you want, my mam can come around and hold your nappies up to the light to see if they pass her inspection, ie, are they white enough to hang on HER washing line! She would not be impressed unless they pass the window/washing line test.

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 30/12/2008 10:14

but squik, hanging them on the washing line gets the stains out by itself.

Not deep stains, the ones where when you hold them up against the window you can still slightly see. They also aren't white white (iynwim)unless they are soaked and boiled. I remember my mam coming to visit and holding dd's nappies against the window and what had looked clean to me, were not clean when hung against the window. She re did them.
