My dd has this weekend asked to do a wee and tried to pull down her nappy and go to the loo...cue her weeing in the toilet
Tried the same for pooing but was too late
Did the same today

I have no idea what to do as she is 19 mths and I didn't expect to do this for about a year yet.
Not potty nothing

Go with it.If she wants to,let her.

My DD2 was doing this before she was 2,I was in . She's now 2.2 and fully potty trained.Really early for my L.O's.

What did you do?

What do you mean? Something like this?

Buy "special" knickers, her choice like ITNG/Fifi etc.

Put her in knickers, get a book about using Potty(M&S have a good one with star chart)

Encourage her to tell you when she wants a wee, keep reminding her.

Massive praise and rewards when she does.

Take spare clothes out with you,and potty/Travel potty.(although my DD2 can wait for me to find a toilet and prefers this)

Buy Care Mats for Buggy and Carseat,as in my DD2's case when she falls asleep she wets herself.HTH

Left DS in nappies, took him to the loo when he asked. When he was poo trained (15 mth), switched to undies with a soaker up front to catch wee accidents or used pull-ups (nursery). Done and dusted by 18 months.

I had a good potty (not the cheap ones that are uncomfortable for them to sit in for any length of time)we called it a toilet. Every time he sat on it I gave him a small biscuit with lots of excitement. He had no nappies/bottoms on all day and everytime he did a wee I was excited and said what he was doing and ran him to the potty (after it had happened). The next day he'd tell me he was going to do a wee but still had accidents but the day later he was doing it on the potty then we'd get excited and take it to the toilet to flush. Kept this up for a week (whenever we were home) until I was sure there'd be no accidents, now starting step 2 with his special underpants! A new couch was sacrificed along the way. Def get some care mats.

go for it, ds1 did this at 20 months

we did in stages as I wasn't sure I believed he was ready (and have 6 wk old!)
left him with bare bum at home for few days and took him to potty at key times like waking from nap, after meals, 40 or so mins after he'd drunk anything

next step sent him to childminders in pants and after another week started taking him out in pants (I was doing pants on as soon as we got somewhere but nappy on for in between travelling)

took couple of changes of clothes out with us and struggled not to get embassed if ds had accident as I always though people would be looking at me thinking 'why on earth has she taken him out of nappies he's clearly not ready' although their lo's same age as mine (now 2.5 yrs) and still not trained so can now feel smug as although had more accidents up front still out of nappies earlier, I personally think changing wet trousers in quicker than nappy and since I have washable nappies no diff on washing load!

had potty in car and in sight when at home to remind him
Pads to sit on when travelling - towel on plastic bag works very well and for long journeys till ds was about 2 we'd put a pull up on him after bombing down motorway one day with him desperately asking for potty and me having to say sorry but i can't stop and basically telling him he'd have to wet himself

great thing is at this ages ott praise really works - ds still thinks he's really clever when he poos in toilet

The best time to potty train is when they want to, so if she wants to .....

ThePudding · 23/12/2008 15:36

yeah I struggled trying when dd just turned 2, now suddenly at 2.5 she refused to wear a nappy, wanted to 'play potty' we keep it fun.
like the towel plastic bag idea for car journeys, but not quite at that stage yet..

keeping pullups for the mo esp. at this exciting time of year. taking pullups AND potty to my mums over xmas.
