Cloth users- what do you do when you go away?

We are due to go and stay with family for a few days over christmas, and I'm not sure what to do about ds's nappies. He is in Tots bots, and I am really happy with them, epsecially as he had bad skin when we were using disposables and it all seems to have cleared up since using cloth. The journey down involves a 6 hour train journey which is not a problem now I have mastered changing a cloth nappy out and about but should I just give in and buy disposables when we get there? We're not really taking much stuff so there would be plenty of room to pack all the nappies we would need, I'm just thinking of where we would keep them while we waited for enough to wash a load? Should I just ask my mum if she has a spare bucket?!

you could take a bucket if you wanted to use them, i guess? you could put the clean nappies in there on the way there?

littlelamb · 19/12/2008 20:19

Could do Franny. But I risk looking like a pack horse in the process It's a good idea though, my nappy bucket's not that big (bloody mothercare) so it might even fit in my bag

god i don't leave the house without cramming the boot full
so would make no odds to me
it is a holiday, though - if that includes a holiday from real nappies then so be it
i am sure it's fine to take disposables if you want

I bought a spare bucket (mothercare I think, not very expensive) that now lives at my mum's (along with a bottle of non-bio). Is that an option?

lollipopmother · 19/12/2008 22:14

My MIL went out and got a bucket specially so that I could take my nappies down. I took faaar more than I needed to, they take up a lot of space, but I did it on purpose because MIL has a tumble dryer so I washed all my nappies even if they weren't dirty!

You can always stick them in a carrier bag til you wash them. We always took cloth if we were travelling anywhere in the car where I knew the people wouldn't bat an eyelid about the washing (mum and sis!) but took disposables when going on a train, staying in hotels, visiting lots of relatives/friends for a day or two at a time.

Just do whatever is easiest

I used to take mine if I was going to relatives. You can use a carrier bag instead of a bucket.

I would take disposeables if not staying at someone's house. I would also take a few disposeables if you don't think you will be able to do as much washing while you are away. How old is he? If you take about 10 nappies that should be enough for 2 days then you could wash them and use disposeables for one day while they dry etc.?

can't spell disposable at this hour
