i had a conversation with my friend today, who said that she doesnt take her new babies out of the house until they are 2 weeks old, and that she was shocked at how early i take mine out.
no one told me that you are "not allowed" to take a baby out of the house in the first 2 weeks, i took mine out at 3 days, and 2 days, and plan to take my baby due in july out at around the same age.
im talking trips to supermarket, or quick trip to the park for DS when i had DD as he was going stir crazy in the house.

so does anyone know if there is actually i "proper" time to take a baby out of its house?

I was convinced that it was Unsafe For Some Reason. Until dd was about 2 months old.
Makes me laugh now!

I have taken all mine out a few days after giving birth but after the experience we have gone thru with DS3 at 4 weeks old, I would be so tempted to wrap any future newborns in cotton wool and not expose them to other people as much as I could until their immune systems were stronger.

This probably sounds very extreme and over cautious but DS3 was very poorly at 4 weeks old and was in hospital for nearly 2 weeks. They thought at first it was a urine infection but now think it was more likely to have been a really bad virus. He was very poorly with it and it affected lots of his organs etc. He is fine now but I wouldn't wish those 2 weeks of hell on anyone.

Am sure someone told me but can't remember who or even if it is right that babies immune systems aren't developed enough to cope with it until they are a bit older. If it is true and I had known that then the only place mine would have been going would be out in the fresh air for walks, although that is completely unrealistic I suppose when you have 2 others/ need to go shopping etc.

One thing I would do is be very selfish with visitors in the early days and ban anyone with colds etc from visiting and also not play pass the parcel with the baby although this is so hard as everyone wants a hold.

Don't mean to scare you with my reply, not my intention.
