Basically ds1 is 2.8 and we tried to potty train him a couple of months ago but wasn't really sucessful so we held off and tried again yesterday, he was nappy free most of the day and he wee'd in his potty a few times but he needed us to keep telling him to sit on his potty every half hour or so.
Today he's had no nappy on since 8 am and has used his potty about 4 or 5 times, the last 2 times he has actually just went on it himself when he needed to wee.
So anyway im back to work tomorrow and he goes to my sils but she picks her dd up from school so should i put him in pull up's until he gets back to her house or just in pants?
Also he's at playgroup on wednesday for 2.5 hours, what do i do for that?
thanks

pants definitely otherwise its confusing him.

provide lots of spare pairs of pants and trousers for whoever is looking after him.

playgroup will be used to kids starting potty training.

make sure they know to keep asking him if he needs to do a wee, espec. your SIL before they leave the house.

Thanks, do you think i will need to take his potty to playgroup or will they put him straight on the toiet, i know i will take the potty to sils as thats now what he knows as his toilet?

Can you get a spare potty for SILs? In Stre have ones with lids that look like a little chair for about £5. Ds has potties at ours, my folks', MILs, child-minders.......

I would say definitely don't put pants back on once you've started potty training. When I did it with my two I just basically stayed in for about 4 days concentrating on it, and they were both fine after that, were able to let me know in time when they need to go. Does he have to go to playgroup? Might be better not to - there will be lots of distractions and he might be too interested in playing to remind you when he needs to go.

I suppose he doesnt have to go to playgroup, he wasn't there last week as he was full of cold, and still has a bit of cold anyway, i hadnt thought of that being a distraction and the playgroup staff probably wouldnt take him to his potty every half hour i wouldnt have thought. Mil is having ds's on wed so i could just get a spare potty and at least he can go when he wants there.

my DS still has the odd accident at nursery, the staff say its quite common, they just get so engrossed in playing that they forget.

so dont worry if he has the odd accident, just reinforce the good behaviour.

i would imagine the playgroup would have a potty or child sized toilets, my DS's nursery have both.

fifisboys · 15/12/2008 16:54

Thanks, i think i'll give them a ring tomorrow just i think until he gets used to it id rather he kept using his potty rather than switching to the toilet just yet, not that i think it would make much difference but still....

Ok...well yesterday ds1 had used his potty all day, he was going to it himself and done really well with only one accident all day which was partly my fault as i couldnt get him downstairs to his potty in time.
Today had 2 poo's and a couple of wee's today on his potty, had a wee just before he had to go to sils today.
I had put his pants on him and she took him to get her dd from school and he had wee'd on the way back.
She put his potty out for him when she got back and he wouldnt use it he wee'd on the floor , and when dp got back home after picking him up he had wee'd again and not asked for his potty

I can't understand how he can do it for me but wouldnt do it at sils
I'm also in 2 minds about what to do tomorrow.
