Help needed for low weight DD

Ok so Dd has her 9mo check today and she has fallen off the growth chart for her weight. I knew that she might have as I am quite petite, ds was also a very small baby and is now a very small toddler so I wasn't worried.

However they booked me a Dr's appointment for monday as they are concerned. She has always been breast fed and never had formula - although she wolfs her food down like no-ones buisness. Again this is just like her brother, they can eat you out of house and home but never put any weight on!

So I am going to print out WHO new weight chart to take with me, as it is based on breastfed babies but what else can I say to the Dr? A friend of mine went through this and her dd had to have blood tests. Which I do really not want to inflict on my baby if I can avoid it.

Help needed please!

Do you feel happy about her development overall? Is she weeing and pooing normally? Is she bright and alert and reacting well to things? I think if you're genuinely happy that she's developing fine, but is just slimming down, then the doctor should take that on board, specially when your older child has followed the same pattern.

Obviously, it's right that the HVs should get you to go to the GP about it, but lots of children thin out - my DS went from chubby baby to slim toddler, and is still very slim - but I recognise his body shape from my brother who was like a rake till his twenties, so I wasn't worried. So long as you don't think she shows any signs of illhealth, the doctor should pay attention to your knowledge of your own child, unless he spots something which is clearly not right from his point of view.

I always took those WHO charts along... I agree with others, if she is lively and alert, happy and eats and sleeps well etc, and you are also petite, I wouldn't worry and don't let them get you het up..

She is very lively, sitting up and rolling tho not crawling, says mama, dada, baba (for ds)so not worried in the slightest. Still I shall see what Monday brings

ok, good luck. They just hate it when you get the WHO charts out, in my experience! Don't let them bully you! On the other hand, even if they do blood tests, it wouldn't harm her..

Forgot to mention hv said I should be giving her formula for the vitamins!! When I said I would prefer not to she looked at me like I was a bit dim witted and asked why. I said I would rather go from breast slowly to cows milk as with ds.

I also faced a bit of that 'give them formula' thing. There is a kind of enshrined idea amongst the health workers I have met that you should bf for 6 months, then give formula at least some of the time after that. It's so out of date. My DS never had it.. the only vit they can't get from bm is vitamin d, which you can give in drops. It's still considered somehow a bit 'alternative ' if your baby's never had formula..
