My DD has never had a haircut, age 21 months and has long blonde hair which I love because it is really fine so I can put it in a pony tail and it doesn't flop in her face. But my mum thinks we should cut it so that it gets thicker. I think this is a myth - is it?? If it did make it thicker, I would give her a crew cut! Poor little mite has my thin hair...

I think it does make it thicker but don't know for sure. It seemed to work with my ds, I gave him his first hair cut just after his 1st birthday as although he'd always had plenty of hair, it was very fine and shorter at the sides so he always looked like he had a mohecchan! I trimmed it to be all to be similar length and it has thickened up no end at the sides since then but it might have happened on it's own. Some people just have fine hair no matter what you do though!

It's a myth (ex-hairdresser here).

When hair is cut, the blunt ends make it appear thicker. But it doesn't make any difference to the actual thickness of the hair.

It will come when it does, and there's nothing you can do which will speed up that process.

And if you like her hair the way it is, then what's the problem?

I lived in Kazakhstan for 4 years and people used to advise me to shave my very bald DS's head to get the hair to grow. I didn't, and I'm sure it doesn't work! DS is 26 months and still has very fine hair, I wouldn't worry!
