SHOULD I BE WORRIED? DD hasn't pooed for 6 days

She's exc bf, and usually poos every four days, but now she's gone for 6 days and still nothing. What's happening in her tummy?!

She's ten weeks old, and very happy and healthy and no sign of any tummy trouble. I'm just worried as to where it's all being stored up. Is this normal?

well they say its ormal for BF babys not to poo alot because they use up all the nutrients in the milk so they really is not waste.

Are you eating enough calories to keep up the fat content of your milk ? I'm no expert ata ll but I imagine if you dont eat enough then baby wouldnt have much to get rid of right. I'm BF too at the moment and poos are a regular thing but if you baby girl is happy and gaining weight I wouldnt worry too much

A bf mother has to be starving for the calorie content and fat make-up of her milk to be affected, and as long as she seems well in herself I wouldn't worry.

Hi there
my lo went for 14 days once and when he eventually went it came out like playdough!! He got very grumpy as you can imagine but the doctor said that at long as the poo was soft when it came out then he was not constipated and should be fine.

callmeovercautious · 06/12/2008 21:32

When DD was that age it was normal for us but MN thought otherwise so I took her to the GP. He recommended giving her more fluids in the form of juice Needless to say I ignored him and found some other sage advice on here that said it WAS normal.
However a change in routine is a worry, perhaps LO is just growing atm and using more of the nutrients?

Keep an eye on her - I am sure she will be fine 6 days is OK in our house, that was average for a few months (much to the HV disgust!)

Thank you for all your advice. Spoke to a doctor who said it was perfectly normal, but to give her brown sugar dissolved in boiled water - then cooled. Gave her a teaspoon - and problem sorted. Just thought I'd let you know in case anyone else out there has the same problem!

Or call NHS direct - DS had same problem, and as soon as I started speaking to the nurse on the other end of the phone line, he 'produced' very audibly

christmascliff · 07/12/2008 23:13

mine always manages to do it either in public or when i'm on the phone to the bank or such-like..... made mistake once of trying to explain how it wasn'tme but ended up sounding more guilty ....
Sorry for hijacking thread... jealous really as we get dirty nsppies almost every change (also excl bf) !
