Grobag Togs

Ok then, I am really confused here, 2 things really -

I have some velour quilted 2.5 Tog Grobags and some with cottony outers, that also claim to be 2.5 togs. I know that they are made to meet a British Standard, but I can't get my head round the idea that the thick velour ones are the same warmth as the thinner cottony ones.

Secondly - My winter duvet is 8 togs! How come it is OK for DS to sleep in 2.5 Tog Growbags? I am terrified of overheating him, but it's really cold at night at the moment! I have a room thermometer in his room and dress him according to the Grobag guidelines, but it seems odd that I sleep under 8 togs (and with somebody else to cuddle up to), and he under 2.5!

I'm not sure how it all works out, but DD used a 2.5 tog grobag and was fine. She slept really well. On very cold nights she would wear a vest, pjs and then grobag. She was always toasty! Probably helps actually being 'in' the grobag, iyswim.

My experience was that the Grobag guidelines were exactly that - a useful guideline. With a bit of experience we started to twig to when DD was/is too warm or cold and adjust clothes accordingly. At the moment her room is about 20.5 (we've put the thermostat in there - otherwise it varied a HUGE amount) and she's in a sleepsuit in a 2.5 tog sack. I won't say she sleeps well (she never has) but she seems comfortable - she was too cold in the recommended layers.

We also found that different styles in the "same" weight wore differently - but again, its a learning curve.
