This afternoon my 7 year old ds managed to get his arm stuck in the rail around the inside edge of the swimming pool where he was having a lesson. It took 6 people 30 minutes to free him. He was freezing cold, scared and hurting. It was a horrid experience. The people who helped were fantastic, other parents who came over to help, and a young guy who put on a pair of goggles and was laying over the edge of the pool with his head in the water using a tiny screw driver to try and undo the rail. The fire brigade were called but he was freed before they arrived. It was so heartening to see people, who i barely know, rallying around to look after my other two dc while i was with the 7 year old. The only person who went was my supposed closest friend who left my dc in the changing room, popped her head round into the pool area and told me she was going and had left the children with a lady in the changing room! That has quite upset me as i would have stayed for her! I guess you learn who you can rely on!! Have now got to persuade my son that it is ok to go swimming again - he just has to watch where he puts his arm!!
