Ideas of presents for my son's 2nd birthday

My boy is going to be 2 on the 29th, and both his grandparents are getting him a trike, and a little tikes ride around car. This has left my husband and I with a dilemma as to what to get him for ourselves.
Any suggestions?

Something for outside? Do you have a garden? A paddling/ball pool?

blodwen · 20/03/2005 22:58

Easel, paintpots, etc. etc?

treacletart · 20/03/2005 23:00

wooden train-set?

I have a tiny garden, hence why his grandparents are getting him ride around toys where you need space. I have paddling pool ( I have just enough space for that...) and arty-crafty stuff as I am trying to be a childminder and have all the stuff ready.
He loves Barney the dinosaur, but already has 3 Barney's, any other suggestions/ He loves cars?

What's your budget?

louisse28 · 20/03/2005 23:02

Spacehopper!!! God that's so cool, I always wished I had one as a child in the 80's. That would be a fabbo present... thank's

ELC have some lovely plush crocodiles. My DH 21m has one that cost a tenner I think and he loves it - particularly when we pretend to eat him or be eaten by it

louisse28 · 20/03/2005 23:04

Budget, erm, £30 I suppose as we have already got him Barney's previously, and Bob the Builder toys and musical books etc (He found them in a cuboard you see.....)

an indoor tent my ds loved his when he was that young. great for imaginative play

treacletart · 20/03/2005 23:06

If you havent got one already then I reckon a wooden brio style train set could be your best investment

louisse28 · 20/03/2005 23:07

I'd love the tent idea, but my house in TINY!!!

  • Remote-controlled car
- Leappad - One of those funky Samsonite animal pull along suitcases - DS (2.5) loves his case and is forever filling it with toys and pulling it from room to room - Books
louisse28 · 20/03/2005 23:08

If I got him a train set and set it all up, he would just take it all apart. He hasn't quite understood the concept of LEAVING train sets as they are, instead of in lots of little pieces- handed to you one by one!! Thanks for the idea anyway!!

ELC do a cool rocket tent at the moment - and it's not massive.

louisse28 · 20/03/2005 23:10

The suitcase idea is cool, he loves pushing or pulling thing's along. How much are they?

If he likes cars, what about this?

Niddlynono · 20/03/2005 23:42

Boots do the Samsonite cases for £39.

Niddlynono · 20/03/2005 23:47

Just found them (Samsonite cases) cheaper from Blooming Marvellous (£34.99).

kitchen set ie a toy cooker with pots and cooking tools? A bit girly, I know, but all the boys seem to love playing with the pots and pans etc and never seem to get given them themselves. Or a shop - ie till plus toy vegetables etc. Obviously, don't have to get all at once but could buy some of the items and then if ds likes it you could gradually build up more.

If he like cars what about a garage?

I recently got a free pull along small suitcase from la Redoute with an order.
