Dd2 is 3 in January and nearly too large for the largest pull ups.
In the summer we started potty training and she really shocked me as she was dry during the day and the occasional night for about 5 weeks(including on holiday)although she was still holding onto her poo and going to hide to do one in her pull ups.She refused to wear proper pants btw.

Then she decided that she was going to stop and just go back to weeing herself.
Sometimes she can be coaxed or bribed into doing a wee on the potty or toilet but most of the time she refuses. She is capable of knowing when she needs to go and sometimes she has her wee for 15 hours and then just wets herself.

I am struggling for ideas now.

Why don't you leave her in pull-ups until she asks not to wear one?

I know a couple of dc who did this. Both had just turned 3 when they announced they didn't want nappies anymore. Both sorted within a week

Beauregard · 01/12/2008 22:39

It is very frustrating ,would it give the wrong signal to her though?

It's evidently a battle

So ignore it - then it can't be a battle anymore

I've been there with dd1 (also stubborn - and I think that's THE key factor here!) and the most effective approach by far was to ignore it

You have an advantage - she's still in nappies. So don't have to deal with endless 'accidents'. DD1 was trained and then started the whole wetting shenanigans

Beauregard · 01/12/2008 22:47

You are probably right but i just feel so helpless and she is nearly too big for the biggest size of pull ups.

What ones are you using?

'Nature' range do a pull-up that dd1 (nearly 5) can fit in easily... they are quite roomy

Beauregard · 01/12/2008 23:22

Never heard of the Nature range tbh.
dd is in Pampers XL .
She is very tall and stocky and wears a 4-5 clothes usually.

Any more opinions?

I'd just let it go for a while. I think notnowbernard is right. If you ignoring it, it's not a battle! Perhap use cloth one which will be more uncomfortable for her and then she might change her mind for her not you!

Beauregard · 02/12/2008 10:40

Thanks for replying.
My instinct is to encourage and not ignore though but i guess it wouldnt hurt for a few weeks.

Tescos own brand pull ups are quite big too...and cheaper!

fruitful · 02/12/2008 12:43

I'd go for cloth pull-ups too. You can get them big enough, and she won't want to wee in them because they won't be comfortable.

Or put her in value nappies. Give her an incentive to wear the nice comfy knickers!

But act supremely unconcerned. You couldn't care less what she does. Wet trousers? In a nappy? Poo behind the sofa? Not going to talk about, just not bothered.

FWIW, ds1 is 3.10, potty-trained at 3.4. He still wets himself quite regularly (couple of times a week or more) because he just can't be bothered to go to the toilet, and then he can't hold it any more.

fruitful · 02/12/2008 12:44

Song and dance when she does use the toilet though.

notnowbernard · 02/12/2008 12:44

You can get Nature ones in the Co-op, Waitrose and Boots

DD1 wears a pull-up at night and is just 5, they fit her with room to spare

Give her a couple of months of not ever going there on the training front, and I reckon she'll have herself sorted in no time (esp as she is dd2)
