I'm sorry I know this has been done plenty a time, but WHERE can I get nice clothes for my dd who is nearly 8

I used to buy her lots of stuff from H & M but she's just moved into the next size group there and I don't like the stuff there.

I actually like the Boden stuff but find it rather pricey.

gap
zara
joules if she likes that sort of thing and it is sort of boden prices
boden in the sale

I agree the H&M stuff turns goth-like post 8 doesn't it?

twinsetandpearls · 28/11/2008 23:52

Dd is 7 I buy her stuff at:
Gap
Zara
Next
department stores
marks
ebay
the odd thing in monsoon but she doesn;t really like much
the odd boden thing,

She does have her own interesting sense of style though so chooses her own stuff

Jako-O if you're happy to buy online.

It gets tricky when they get older dosen't it ? Esp if they are tall and /or sturdy. I think gap are good for that age group but quite pricey for jeans and things . new Look have a 9 -13 range which has some horrid stuff but some really nice stuff - also check out Matalan if you can - surprisingly nice things and not as tarty as some .

Thanks for the tips.

The zara website is rather hard work mind isn't it?

primark also has some lovely dresses from time to time

castille · 29/11/2008 16:29

Esprit is good.

karise · 29/11/2008 16:33

I fear DD will be growing out of the H&M younger range too soon so we shall have the same problem!
The other shop we use is Monsoon- we only go 1st day of sale & shop for the following year! Have had some real bargains on all sorts of things

Mercy · 29/11/2008 16:44

Fortunately (?!) my dd (7½) is on the small side so I think we can continue shopping at the many of places mentioned here for another year or longer.

Pumpkin Patch?

janeite · 29/11/2008 16:48

Zara have some lovely things at reasonable prices. Gap - expensive but they have very good sales. Sorry to be the voice of doom but it gets even more difficult as they get older.

seeker · 29/11/2008 16:52

What's wrong with the H amd M older range? You do have to be a bit selective - but my dd has been wearing a mixture of H and M, New Look and charity shop since she was about 7. I honestly thing you'll have trouble keeping them in Bodenish stuff for much longer - they develop wills of their own about clothes very early!

Oh, once my dd was about 8ish she didn't like Boden girls stuff any more, but she still (she's 12) likes the boys stuff. Worth a look.

karise · 29/11/2008 17:00

That's fine if your child wears clothes for their age group But when you get tall 6 year olds needing clothes designed for 9 & 10 year olds things become MUCH more tricky!

marialuisa · 29/11/2008 17:47

DD is the same sort of age and will wear a fair bit of boden/joules (it's not all hotch-potch stuff). The rest is just down to luck from places already mentioned such as Zara, we've found Polarn O.Pyret good for skinny jeans and othetr bits. Definitely very hard now, so much in the shops is grim. Pumpkin Patch can be ok but I find stuff is often ruined by tacky belts that can't be removed.

vertbaudet?

TK Maxx have some lovely stuff. Last week I bought a gorgeous dress in a retro printed soft cord by Hoxton Chic for £14.99 - it's really very lovely.

I don't like H&M girls' stuff - they seem to use cheap fabric and that horrible sweet kitty logo a lot of the time. And their tights look lovely but don't stay up.

Sainsbury Tu are good for some things.

i saw that dress today swedes, very sweet (& what a fabulous brand name ). ended up with some katvig & oilily stuff in the end. i do think tk is always worth a look though it depends on your attitude to prolonged browsing.
