my son is 2 weeks today and i constantly have to change his bed sheet because they get wet.
I think the pee is leaking through the nappy? ive been usiung pampers and huggies new born and also Wiona newborn nappies (organic ones) and i had no luck with either of these...
I have mentionned it to the community midwif but she didnt seem worried.
I do change his nappies every 2-3 hours but i dont want to wake him up to change his nappy.. or should I?

Ive also tried clothes nappies but they are too bulky on hoim esp with a booster

make sure you dont leave too much slack around the leg as it tends to run straight out even if nappy has to go up higher nce and tight round legs or it'll leak everytime

as for the night time i always did change ds nappy before i went to bed and then resigned myself to the fact it may be wet in the morning but atb this age he was feeding every few hours so changed after every feed if needed it

do you make sure his willy is pointing straight down (rather than up or to the sides)? What size are you using? If he is a heavy enough weight then try the bigger size as the sizes all overlap and the bigger size will be more absorbant.

fymandbean · 27/11/2008 19:57

You probably just need to do it up tighter - I made this mistake with DS - oh and make sure it's the right size! again with My DS I should have gone straight for pampers size 2 as he was big but didn't!

Make sure willy is down definitely, and also put it on snugger than you'd think. We stopped using newborn nappies pretty quickly with DS as he was pretty big born.

Also with cloth (DS went into around 4-6 weeks) they don't really mind the bulk when they are newborn, even if the nappy can look alarmingly large!

use pampers and put him in the biggest size for his weight. Remember if he drinks a lot he will pee a lot. Make sure his willy is flattened down towards his bum, and not up or sideways. put a popper vest on him to hold it still and don't be afraid of doing it up reasonabley tight, they are elasticated and you won't hurt him.

Second the willy pointing down advice. Also make sure the frilly edges of the nappy are nicely turned out, not tucked inside

BigBadMouse · 27/11/2008 21:54

You can use a wrap designed to go over a cloth nappy over a disposable too. I never use a disposable without a wrap over the top now. Works best if you use a Motherease wrap as these are the most reliable - if you have one to hand give it a go.

I changed his nappy 6 times last night and i still got a wet bed...
We are using size 1, newborn because he is only 3.9kg. Huggies are the worst....

I havent thought about the position of the willy, so will check that. I already make sure that the frilly edges are turned out...

I need to buy more bed sheet... three are obviously not enough!

size 2 starts from 3kg so I would try them - either the new baby ones or the baby dry ones as they both have the size 2 option.

susiey · 28/11/2008 19:06

I found huggies rubbish for anytime but tesco own brand hold loads of wee so maybe try those

also is he in a moses basket or in a cot if hes in moses basket you know you can use a pillow case

LynetteScavo · 28/11/2008 19:13

Pampers always leaked for my LO's, but I found Hugies much better. I think changing sheets is all par for the course with new borns. It does get easier as the babies legs get chubbier and fill the nappy leg holes.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby, by the way !

tostaky · 28/11/2008 19:40

Mose basket... - i didnt think about using a pillow case!! thanks!

Ive just ordered with my weekly shopping some pampers for 4 to 6/7kg i think... might be a bit big but should be ok...
Thank you!!

you've gone straight to size 3 then - just make sure you fasten them tight enough - the tabs may even have to overlap.

mumblemumhome4lunch · 28/11/2008 19:59

Make sure you aren't inadvertantly catching a lable into the nappy or, with a cloth one, letting a lable stick out - acts like a wick. When I spotted this early on with my first I suddenly found I had far less of a problem ! I did give up on real nappies at night fairly early on as he was still leaking even with four or five boosters.....poor blighter could barely move and did look funny

Second the motherease wrap round a disposable.

With disposable Lidl were best for us (and cheap!) and Tesco weren't bad, sainsbury rubbish and pampers not a lot better. But I think it does seem to be a bit of horses for courses so you might want to try different ones.

My health visitor suggested padding the nappy with a big was of cotton wool and this worked quite well - watch out it is all well inside the elasticated frill.

Hope that helps a bit.

Ariela · 02/12/2008 22:32

If he has skinny legs, then I'd suggest sellotape the disposable up round the legs, was the only way I could ever slow the leaks. Cloth was better, ignore the bulk, gives you something to get hold of when you pick him up!)

tostaky · 05/12/2008 17:58

thanks everybody, i found that a larger size of nappies were just what we needed!!! I should have thought about it! duh!

mumble - 4 or 5 boosters... gosh the nappy must have looked huge!
