Moving house with a 2-year-old

We are probably moving to a new area in a few weeks' time and I was wondering how best to help ds (2.4) to cope with the upheaval. Anyone got any tips?

Have moved twice in the last few years and have a nearly 5 year old and a 3 year old (and a baby). tbh ds1 (the oldest) found it the hardest as had some good friends at his nursery that he had been at since he was 19 months. I just basically talk to them about it, show them pictures of the new house, tell them their toys WILL be coming too - try and make them excited. Does ds have a big boy bed yet - maybe a good time to get him one? If he is going to be at nursery, show him pictures of that too. They are not too young to understand and will take in a lot more than you think.

Thanks for the reply, very helpful. He's been in a big boy bed for a couple of months as we knew we might move so were trying to spread out all the changes a bit. We were thinking maybe we should try to replicate the decor in his bedroom so it looks a bit familiar... House is rented but landlady has said we can decorate.

We moved when DS was 1.6 months into rented flat - then again at 1.11 months. Things that helped were familiar scents in his room (used lavendar oil for few weeks either side of the move in new and old bedroom) - making new room feel familiar when light as well is a great idea.
