Hi there, sorry if this isn't the best thread to use but anyway...

My son is 2.3 and every now and then he, husband and me like to snuggle up on the sofa and watch a movie together. Bit of family bonding time, often on a Sunday after the one meal a week we can all have together.

Problem is, some of the films that are appropriate for a two year old have one of us adults slyly reaching for a paper/falling asleep before long!

We've enjoyed the old fashioned Winnie the Pooh, the Stuart Little ones and the best one yet but has been done to death now, Finding Nemo which we all loved.

Can you give me any more suggestions please?

Jungle Book. It was raining and miserable on DH's birthday recently and he and DD1 had a lovely time cuddled up on the sofa while I took DD2 to the supermarket (in the rain...) to buy birthday meal ingredients. She's a bit older, though.

good one, thanks dotty!

Is Lion King a bit scary? I seem to remember a lion being crushed by wilderbeast scene...

Toy Story and Toy Story 2, Robots, Wallace and Grommit (shorter ones) were all enjoyed by me and ds together. Also Shrek and the cartoon Tarzan.

My Neighbour Totoro - Japanese animated film about a family who move into a new house in the countryside and meet Totoro - kind of a big bunny....

Really lovely film with nothing remotely threatening in it and great for adults too.

Also features the Cat Bus - a giant bus that is also a cat and runs on about 10 legs!!

All the Pixar type cartoon films - Toy Story, Antz, Bee Movie, Cars, Robots etc work on several levels. I have just bought the DVD of Wall-E for my sister and her children for similar situation.

Most of the aforementioned here, and also, on an old fashioned theme, Dumbo is good for little ones and has a bizarre dream sequence in the middle to keep the adults wondering what drugs the animator was on when he made it.

Lotster · 24/11/2008 18:49

all brilliant suggestions, thanks!

I have always had them watching musicals. Lots of noise and singing, bright colours and dancing.
7 brides for 7 brothers
the king and I
These two have alwys been their favourites.

I agree with Squitten My Neighbour Totoro is a great family film.
We Also like Howls moving Castle,The Cat Returns, Sprinted Away, Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, Laputa - Castle In The Sky all made by Japanese film makers Studio Ghibli. Most of the films made by Studio Ghibli are family friendly except Grave of the fireflies which is a very moving amine about Japan after the world war two and the lose of childhood innocence.
