Just want to say thankyou to everyone who gave me advice on sleep routines, and breakfast ideas, when I asked about looking after my friend's 3 year old ds, whom I'm caring for, for 5 days.

It's going very well so far, we've had a few minor tantrums, but we've had relatively few problems with breakfast and he seems to enjoy having a bedtime routine, though he wasn't impressed that he could have only an hour of tv per day.

He's certainly hard work, very active but his behaviour is better than normal, and I'll miss him when his mother returns.

Oh, wow! Good for you, missus. I bet he's having a ball. What's he having for breakfast, then?

So far he's had coco pops one day followed by toast and cream cheese.

The next day he had boiled eggs with soldiers and half an apple.

And today he had french toast with bananas.

He has been eating very well actually, perhaps a little too well as last night I'd made him chicken instead of the chorizo we were having, of course as soon as I sit down he decides he'd prefer my chorizo and he ate that.

Poor kid has never had a banana before, he told me his mummy says they're slimy and horrible and he wouldn't like them.[hmmm] but he loves them.

We're going to make smoothies later which will be another first for him.

Yummy - I'm coming to your house for tea, falcon. What time do you want me?

falcon · 25/11/2008 11:08

LOL. ASAP so long as you're prepared to wash the dishes for me. I'll dry them and put them away.

I've decided imposing porridge on him, much as I love it, may be a step too far at the moment, so tomorrow I'm planning on making pancakes.

Porridge is good with chopped apricots/honey/sultanas anything like that.

But pancakes are yum too.

No problem re washing up, and my table manners are good, honest

Falcon, you've done a fab job. I'm sad about his mum, though. Are you good enough friends to be able to sit down and talk about her food issues? It seems such a shame that she's telling him he won't like things.

You are SUCH a good friend, btw - hope she appreciates it!

falcon · 25/11/2008 12:12

Yes we're very close. I think I will have another talk with her, as he's such a sweet little kid, and a good diet would improve his behaviour to an extent, plus he so obviously wants to try new things and she isn't allowing him to do so.

She does appreciate the help, but I have to say I'm glad I have this opportunity, I love spending time with him, though it is hard work and I'll be sad when he goes.
