Why are we so tired all the time?

DH and I are totally knackered - 2.7 yrs on - and our son has always been a pretty good sleeper. We have no excuse.

There are so many mums around (on MN and in RL) who have 2/3/4 kids, jobs, active social lives and extended families to consider who just seem to have boundless energy for life.

Why is it that with one child and me a SAHM am I always so goddamn tired? We barely ever go out in the week. We occasionally go out on a sat night (but very rarely) and we are falling into bed at 10.30 every single night including weekends. Up at 6.15 every day - but that's not unusual is it?

Well I don't know about you lot but I'm permanently knackered because I have ME. It's not exactly recommended in a parent, but you can learn a lot from it.

Diet is definitely a factor in fatigue, and the right kind of exercise. It's not enough to be constantly on the go looking after your kids and doing housework - you need real aerobic exercise, preferably combined with personal time. Swimming is great, so is walking (ditch the car if possible). It's important to make time for yourself so that you're not using all your resources on other people (ie family). It's common to say "there isn't time" but most of us can make time if we really try.

There are loads of other factors you could consider but I'd look at those three first - diet, exercise and personal time. If there's no change in a couple of months then see a doctor. Underactive thyroid is possible and can be triggered by pregnancy.
