dd is 2.8 and has been inknickers for a week, she is hardly having any wee accidents and is doing great.
She has yet to do a poo on the toilet or potty and for the last 2 days has had the sort of explosions where i have had to shower her and scrub all her clothes (actually yesterday i just binned them as they were so gross).
So should I give up, I just mentioned to her that she may have to go back in nappuies and she was not happy abot the idea.

She's obviously not quite ready imo, so I would definately put her back in nappies if I were you. She may not be happy, but you've got to take control.

I've put my ds (2.5) back in nappies. We started potty training (none to successfully) and then he got a horrible cold/flu thing which knocked him for six. He still isn't quite over it and his nappies have been awful since then (frequent with masses of runny poo - yuck!).

I agree. I would go back. I am sure that you will handle it well Just make plenty of reassurances that she has not done anything wrong, give her plenty of incentives to keep trying and be as casual and relaxed about it as you can.
DD1 found potty training so easy - dry overnight a week before DD2 was born. DD2 has been exactly the opposite and at 5 yrs still needs night time nappies. To my shame, I know that I have slowed the process down thanks to my badly hidden frustration at times and did make her really worried about the potty for a while. Now I have probably gone too far the other way as she quite likes night time nappies again and I have had to start trying a few new serious incentives to encourage her to make an effort to get up in the night!

socky - i'd say no wee accidents is fab. is it not quite common for poos to take longer.

I'd stick with it (sorry to contradict tuty)

Now I'm off to start my own potty training thread so please come and talk to me!

I would give her a bit more time. DS2 got it on day 13 of his 14 day time limit Like your DD, he "got" wees but not poos.

SoupDragon · 19/11/2008 13:41

I would say that it sounds as if she has an upset tummy though. Poo should be firmer, not explosive.

I rewarded my little dd 2.5 with a little sweet or bar for every poo. I think she was holding it in until I did that! You could try lining the potty with a nappy as some little ones don't like the feeling of pooing and it makes them more comfy (i read that somewhere...). Don't give up just yet, I'd say...

we have been doing the sweetie thing, she always has expolsive poos which is why I have been dreading potty training, so far she has only done them at home thank goodness. I think another week sounds like a good idea, she is so happy about having big grl knicklers like her sisiter.

Sounds weird but we also pretend that people she loves have bought her knickers as well, her grandad, her uncle etc.
Like your dd she likes being grown up and like Mummy, she now wants panty liners in hers (she calls them plasters!)
