Has anyone tried any of The Parent Practice courses?

Are they worth the money?

Do free parenting classes exist?

Yes they (free courses do exist) I'm in Herts and we advertise and promote CSF run/funded courses - you can access the details via your local gov. website or Children's Centre or Extended schools consortium coordinator of parent support worker or the parenting information officer based within the local csf/council/distict partnership offices!

Sorry! Children Schools and Families

In my area they offer 123 Magic courses and some offer LLevel II referral Webster Stratton courses.

Families in Focus is another place to try as is parentlineplus who are more than just a telephone helpline - they run on-phone parent counselling one to one.

hi

i've been to the "bringing the best out of boys" evening course.

i would give it a considered thumbs up. there was a lot of revision and reassurance, which i found useful(dh thought it was a waste of time) plus new techniques to try. in the evening course there isn't much chance to focus in depth on these though. i think with any short course, no matter what the subject matter, you can really only come away with 2 - 3 new things.

depends on your budget though. we are quite strapped at the moment and i wouldn't consider shelling out at the moment. at the time i thought it was reasonably priced.

Thanks bossykate, I was looking at the 4 week course
I could just read a book I suppose

I was interested in the "boys" course having 2 DSs but it was fully booked.

I got together with some friends and held a "private" one off course with these people in my living room. That was good as we could tailor the course to our own circumstances but agree that in a short space of time it's not going to change your life!

It is a lot for what it is.

I have no personal expereience, but they have done a couple of things at the DCs school (private, mixed, up to 11, SW London).

I think they were along the lines of a "taster" for going on the whole course or signing up for individual sessions. I'm pretty sure the head - who is very good - would not have given them airtime unless she was very convinced they were good and knew what they were doing.

TheBlonde · 20/11/2008 13:56

Thanks, I thought £40 per person per session wasn't too bad
