I used pieces of cut up fleece as wipes for DD. I used to just put water on them, but other people make interesting solutions.

If it was a nappy filled with poo, then when I had wiped it with the wipe, I would swish it around in the toilet a bit, and then just put it in the nappy bin. Fleece is great as when you wash it, it fries almost instantly .

I'm afraid I can't help with the nappy question, as I didn't use either of those nappies.

I have heard that Motherease are good but have no experience.

Re the wipes I use cut up towel for my DS he has bad eczema so I have a tub with water and aqueous moisturiser in it and it seems to workk great saves on nappy cream too I find

NattyTomAndEllen · 18/11/2008 00:50

ok thanks
i read b4 that u can prewet them and store them in a tub? is that possible, seems easier than having to carry about a tub of water, espesially when out and about

i used a solution of squirt natural baby bath, a tablespoon of olive oil, 2 cups warm water put into a tub ( used huggies/pampers tub) - put wipes in and they were ready to go. For out and about - two ziplock bags - one with ready to go wipes and one for used wipes. As I have a laundry here - just through them in the nappy soaker with pooey nappies.

You can get a little squirt which you can attach to the toilet to sluice off pooey nappies and then just check them in the pail ready for when you wash.

Onelife/ Motherease

Most people think there is no difference but there is a very subtle one. The Onelife have a finer ribbing around the edges than the motherease, they are slightly better fitting in that they are more adaptable to the babies shape and more stretchy. Importantly, they come with the additional booster included - Motherease do not - you will have to pay extra. Onelife wraps are a similar deisgn to the Motherease Airflow. Both wraps are excellent, bombproof really, the best you can get but the motherease are more flexible this time. The PUL (what they are made from) is softer. Whatever brand of nappy you use I would very much recommend Motherease wraps above any other and most people would agree with that I think. The wraps work over every nappy I have tried, and I have tried a lot!

I have to say, I really really really don't like Motherease or Onelife. It's a shame as they are a slim fit and are very well made but they just don't suit my DCs at all. DD2 is tall and thin and DS is chubby and they don't fit either of them well and they were no way near absorbant enough for us, even when they were young. I do however very much recommend the Sandy - but it isn't btp (loads avaialble second hand and good resale value if budget is a concern. Any btp nappy will be bulky on a young baby.

I would recommend you buy just one or two of any nappy at first and see how you get on (or hire a trial kit once your baby arrives). Motherease do an Organic and a Bamboo version. The bamboo is lovely, so soft and stays that way, but takes longer to dry (quite a while in fact). It is slimmer fitting than the cotton version but not any more absorbant than it. The organic cotton Sandy's I have are better than the normal - seem to stay softer for longer. Sandy's make fantastic nappies for all ages of DC IMO.

re wipes/poo, I use a piece of loo roll to get the worst off, then the wet flannel

I wouldn;t recommend ME onesize or Onelife either - I have a couple for the emergency change bag because they pack small but IME they are vastly inferior to the sized nappies I usually use.

I have heard of some very good BTPs that adjust in the width of the gusset (iyswim) as well as round th elegs/ waist but I cannot for the life of me remember what they're called... I think the website had rabbits on. I'll have a rummage

BigBadMouse · 18/11/2008 10:11

Doh! That probably doesn't make any sense . I mean to say I don't like Motherease Onesize (MEOS) but I love Motherease Sandy's!

Also should add that if you buy MEOS or Onelife new be prepared that their resale value is very poor - you can pick up MEOS very cheaply second hand and hardly used. The bamboo and (probably) coloured MEOS hold their value slightly better - not certain about the coloured as not seen too many for sale second hand yet - they are new.

MrsBadger · 18/11/2008 10:17

aha

cottontails

how old is dd1?

NattyTomAndEllen · 19/11/2008 15:12

DD is 18months, so will be approx 2 when baby born.
are there any good onesize nappies then?

Hip Hip Baby Wonderoos are good, but they'd be bulky between the legs early on, my DD is 9 weeks and 11lb now and they don't look big on her with the smallest insert, but a couple of weeks ago they were massive between her legs.

I would recommend the Motherease Sandy's as well because you can pick them up on the 2nd hand market and sell them on to fund the next size up without losing a great deal of money, they are as bombproof as you're going to get I reckon.

bitofadramaqueen · 19/11/2008 19:10

I use similar solution to eidsvoid, although I add a couple of drops of lavender oil.

At the moment, I just chuck the dirty wipes straight in the nappy bucket (I dry pail). DS only 4 1/2 months though so may need to rethink that once the contents of his nappy are more substantial

NattyTomAndEllen · 19/11/2008 22:27

ok i think im gonna get one of each type suggested plus the ME and onelife.. and just try them..
also i tried the wipes today, but they have gone a little slimy
any ideas?

bitofadramaqueen · 19/11/2008 22:50

What kind of recipe did you use? I usually do dollop of olive oil, dollop of babywash, few drops of lavender oil then I fill the container about quarter of the way full with water. I then fill the container with wipes and they soak up all the solution. I use flannel type wipes though.

Maybe you need to play about with quantities of what you're using.

lollipopmother · 20/11/2008 18:41

I use a mug of camomile tea and couyple of drops of essential oils to make it smell nice, no slime involved.

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 21/11/2008 09:20

I didnt actually like the onelife when i tries them but them i am a pocket fan BIGTIME!!! i dontknow diff between the two sorry....

Wipes wise i use flannels and just chuck em in the dry pail with the pooey nappies. Hope that helps.
