So, once potty trained at home, how do you deal with trips out?

to shops and park and things?

DD1 (the little genius!) has suddenly decided to potty train herself, for last 3 days she has used potty for everything, only had one accident when I accidently left potty on the wrong side of the stair gate into the ktichen.
As I had to go out this weekend we put ehr in a nappy while we were out but I now have a travel potty (she wont use the loo) but what do we do abotu car journeys etc?
TIA for any advice

I put a plastic bag on the car seat, but make sure she goes before you go out.
Well done to your dd though

I was about to ask this - if they need to go outside (DS going to park with the ILs tomorrow!) do you just let 'em wee in the street?!

I don't let them wee in the street but that is just my preference.

I restrict trips in the first few days to places there are accessible loos - shops, parks, friends' homes etc.

I also think you need to accept that the worst thing that will happen is the child wets him/herself. Unless you make a fuss it will be virtually unnoticeable to anyone else. Just proceed on to the loo you were aiming for originally, and calmly change them with no fuss.

dd used to shout "damp" from the back of the car.

Cheers!

DS has been dry 2 days but is going out with his grandparents to the park. Its a fair walk and no facilities. I could just put him in a nappy I supppose, but that seems to defeat the object a bit.

Personally I would change the outing tomorrow, but that is just my opinion and might not be right for you. A park is a little different (bushes etc ) than weeing directly in the street.

The first few days after the DTDs were toilet trained I carried nappies in the car in case they needed the toilet and it was too far to get to. They could put the nappy on, use it and then take it off again. They were just turned 3 so not confused by it. In California there aren't too many bushes or trees to pee behind.

I would keep the travel potty in the car and schedule regular toilet breaks every hour and a half or so during the day. A useful tip I was given was to put a clean change of clothes in a zip lock bag. Then the wet clothes go into the zip lock bag to be taken home and don't stink out the car.
