A question about little boys bits!

dh just asked me, and I havent got a clue, but when are you supposed to start pulling back their foreskin (or encouraging them to do so) to clean underneath?

We didn't - I don't know if you're meant to or not really.

iirc it's not until they are about 7 or something.

No idea but most of them do it naturally by fiddling with it between ages of about 2 and 4 I think.

Don't worry unless he gets any trouble weeing etc.

We avoid bubblebath as both times we started using it, ds got a sore red willy, the GP said it was the most common cause of this, which we didn't believe - however no problems since!

I'm rambling, sorry - but generally DON'T pull back foreskin or try and clean under, certainly not before ds is about 4. It could cause adhesions and so on, leading to possible circ. later.

(we were almost referred to consultant about this, when it was red once - saw a diff GP - he was routinely going to send us to see someone about circ! am so glad I questioned it, it would be last resort for us I think)

Btw I have never tried to clean ds's and I have no idea what is lurking in it

Not supposed to pull the foreskin back! They do it themselves at around 4ish I think, DS fiddles with his willy in the shower so I figure it is getting nice and clean.

I thought it was between 4 and 6. I had the same thought when my DS was tiny- I just thought 'what am I supposed to do with that? It doesn't look like it's going anywhere!' so asked the HV and have left it alone ever since

I am not looking forward to stumbling on this problem! Ds has been a fiddler ever since he could locate it......he's only 2

no you definitely dont pull it back. you can injure it

they will start to pull it in the other direction as soon as they can get their hands on it
