toddler only eats yoghurt! Help me before we end up on one of those 'freaky eater' progs!

My (almost) 2 year old will only eat yoghurt, and very occasionally will nibble cracker/bread. Seriously. He has never eaten what has been put in front of him..except for a few baby jars when he was much younger, he wouldn't eat jars now though. He will not willingly put food in his mouth, and if we try and sneak it in he spits it out immediately. Even something like a fish finger (which most toddlers like) has never been past his lips! My GP says not to worry, as long as we are offering food then he won't starve. But, how can he possibly be healthy if he never eats anything? I'm really worried about him. It doesn't matter what i offer, he will not eat it. Not even a biscuit, or a piece of fruit! What am i doing wrong?

how much milk is your son drinking? just wondered if reducing the amount of milk will make him more hungry....

My toddler (2.8) eats toast and yoghurt. That's really it, he'll have small quantities of other snacky things, but won't eat "proper" meals. From what I have read, it is relatively common in toddlers and is OK.

The milk question is a good one!

Beyond that, I would stop buying yoghurt. If you don't have any, he can't eat it.

I'd keep on putting things in front of him in the conviction that he'll eventually take the bait.

My DS had a phase of eating nothing but tomatoes and apple. He has now branched out into very thrilling things like plain pasta and fish fingers (though as a toddler, wouldn't touch a fish finger; he still dislikes all 'child-friendly' food like chips/chicken/whatever Annabel Karmel says they are guaranteed to love).

Generally, if the DCs don't eat what's on offer at family mealtimes, then they go hungry. They have not yet starved!

Good luck...

he does have quite a lot of milk in my opinion, usually lots in the evening before bed. I think tonight i won't give him any milk, he will probably wake up hungry in the night but thats a good thing if he eats something tomorrow then, right?

Toddlerdom, eh? constant battle it seems! Got to tackle the potty training soon too EEK!

Is it just flavoured yoghourt or will he et natural too? Have you tried adding your own things to yoghurt like fruits then some mini-weatbix to dip in. If he goes for that you could maybe add in savouies like cucumber like raita. Then give htecucmber on the side.

I wouldn't go cold turkey and drop the milk.. just do it gradual over a few days and sit and eat together at the table. Also keep a food diary of exactly what he eats and drinks
